Thailand Delays Tourist Entry Fee Amid Travel Concerns

Featured Replies

They did that already and called it exit tax, which would probably also include an entrance tax, but was only charged when you exit.

Is this exit tax actually a passenger facility use fee that is applied to all not just foreign tourists?

Any international flight I believe. It used to be 500 Baht which you paid when you went through to immigration after check in. Then they scrapped the collection at the airport and put it onto the price of the ticket, however, they also bumped it up to 700 baht as no one would notice.

IMO, any tourist that cannot afford 300 Baht entrance fee is not the kind of tourist Thailand needs.

That isn't really the issue, it is just one issue among many.  At some point there will be the proverbial straw that breaks the camel's back.  There are a number of negative things about Thailand and different people will have different levels where they will say enough is enough.

Very similar to the submarine where where the delays turn from months into years and very soon a decade.....

Just forget about it...

Thailand Always Chickens Out

Every chance the wealthy Chinese and Indians would baulk at a £7 entry fee......good decision.

You don't become a millionaire by paying £7 entry fees.

Was an ill-gotten idea from the start; despite no such tax hotels meanwhile are empty; wide body aircraft heading for Bangkok have occupancies of less than 10% (luckily not all of them), restaurants close every minute to the minute.

How much slashing and beating does the government intend to add to a dead horse?

Dear Thailand, could it be ... just maybe ... that the reason you are losing your tourists to Vietnam is the EXCHANGE RATE difference?  Thailand has "expensive" currency, Vietnam has "cheap" currency."  Yes, it really is that simple.

I am bored to death with this topic. It’ll be great favor to the readers if ASEANNOW black-out this news until it’s in implemented.

postponed its proposed 300-Baht entry fee

Why not re-introduce the 300 baht EXIT fee as we used to have pay many years ago - 30 years in my case!

Thailand have become a s..t hole for scumbags from all over the world.

The only thing they talking about is the trillions of baht they will make on this and that and nothing happens.

Then a new stupid idea.Again and again. They try to lure people to come with stupid campains that not anyone believe. They totally priced themselves out compared to neighbor countries but they want admit it.

1st of August they hopefully pay the price for their gready minds.

Yeah unfortunately all the dregs that usually hang out in Ibiza, Marbella or Mykonos have decided Thailand is the best place to be dodgy as it's easier to bribe people.

Funds collected would be allocated to enhancing tourist attractions and providing visitor insurance.

Yes that sounds real good on paper  I would  pay the 300, But But, does  ALL the money  Arrive at the Right Place otherwise it's a big Scam.

Ya out your right leg in.....it's in, it's out, ya shake it all about ... oh hookey pookey pookey.....

Right. They stay all over Thailand.I normally avoid foreigners from some parts of the world.

It seems that some people didn't learn to say mama or papa as a infant but the f...word is the first they learned. That said i meet some genuine foreigners whos really nice and funny to sit and take a beer with

They still can't find a painless way to implement this fee.

There must be a reason why they can't tack this onto the current 730 Baht PSC, then that 1,030 Baht PSC could be collected via the ticket issuance.

Have I dreamt this......?

I recall having to by a ticket to depart (50/ 500B?) from ticket machines, which you then handed in with your passport at passport control.

I lost count years ago. Remember the 500 Baht exit fee we all had to pay after check-in in Don Meuang? It wasn't long after they scrapped that that they started talking about an arrival tax, and it's come up almost every years since, and every bloody time they cancel it just before it's supposed to go into effect.

Sight.

I bet every quality high end tourist is breathing a sigh of relief that they can now come to Thailand and stay in a 5 star resort and not have to fork out 300 baht arrival tax.

Even for a well to do or comfortably off family of four, it’s only 1,200 baht. Is it really something that will change their decision to visit?

Back packers might feel it financially I suppose.

1. If 9 dollars more makes you change your travel plans, maybe you can’t afford to travel.

2. Why don’t they just bury it in the cost of the airline ticket?

Because the Airlines have refused to collect it for the greedy little bar stewards. Basically told them to f#ck Off. 🤣👍

Thailand keeps complaining about tourism falling and wanting to make things better and then they shoot themselves in the foot again by trying to make it more complicated for people, or adding something.  It’s actually comical to watch now.  If you’re trying to attract high-end tourist, and big money. You have to have a stable country  Not a moving target

They used to do it a few years back, with their ridiculous 500 Baht departure tax - see where that got them.

That was a Passenger Service Charge (PSC) - a fee for using the airport, paid by all passengers - not a departure tax or tourist tax limited to foreigners. It never went away, but is now 730 baht and is included in the price of every ticket. You'll see it in the pricing data under the code "TS".

They could put it on the TDAC arrival card.

That is almost certainly the reason they came up with the TDAC after several years of doing just fine with none of that information at all - it will make a good vehicle to collect a tax that will only be paid by foreigners. The earlier idea that was floated (and then abandoned) for an ETA seemed to have been created for the same purpose, but maybe they decided that they wanted to cover all foreigners instead of just visa exempt travelers...

Maybe only charge a processing fee for those who enter under the Visa waver program.

My sense is that several Permanent Secretaries (transport, tourism & sport, interior, culture) all want to "manage" (AKA pilfer) this MASSIVE slush fund - at 30 million visitors, this would be a 9 BILLION Baht (annually) treasure chest. And none want to yield.

Should have asked for 500 Baht and include a Health Insurance.

many only intend on coming once , they are not all budding expats

Exactly. It would probably be a bureaucratic and costly (more staff needed) nightmare, with only a fraction left after expenses for tax coffers, but zero baht used for insurance, or tourism improvements...

more staff needed for what ?

The QR code of the TDAC will be used to collect payment.

Software, payment collection...

What's 300 bhat ? Do they think 300 bhat stop tourists  coming to Thailand  ? I wonder this flip flop for 300 bhat , they must be scared of their  own shadows.
