Looking to get a 4  x1.5m front gate made. Nothing fancy, but the wife would like stainless as is is considerably lighter than the steel one we have at the moment. Any idea of the cost per m2?

Why would stainless be lighter?

Stainless is slightly heavier than carbon steel, but it is stronger than hot-roll steel, and it work-hardens when it's rolled into tubing making it even stronger, and it is more expensive, all of which results is using thinner tubing.

Got it...so stronger allows all parts to be thinner.....hence overall...lighter.

Go around for quotations.

The price for your gate is going from 6000 - over 15.000 roughly. Depends on design.

Beginning of the year, we were quoted 50,000 for SS gate approximately the same size as yours. Didn’t get a check price, but believed that was the going rate.

Not necassarily

Stainless steel UTS 500-700 MPa 72,500-101500 psi

Medium carbon steel UTS 600-800 MPa 87020 -116030 psi

The medium carbon steel is stronger than the stainless steel. Even in the West there is stainless and stainless. I dread to think what the Thai spec for stainless steel is?

Stainless is stronger than hot-rolled steel tubing, which is what would typically be used in a gate. No one claimed it was stronger than medium carbon or structural steel.

"Hot rolled steel generally has a tensile strength around 67,000 PSI and a yield strength of 45,000 PSI"

Thailand uses the same specifications for stainless as is used in most of the world. For gates and fences, Thais typically use 304.

Got quoted 75,000 includes motor and install with track for a steel sliding gate with aluminium powder coated vertical strips no gaps, 5m long 1.8m high..so that should give you an idea.
