The Thumbs Down Syndrome

There are certain idiots who hold a grudge and stick a thumbs down on any posts by the person they disagree with/dislike.

They will put it on posts they don't even read, they will put it on posts as they appear......I had ten or more thumbs down go on posts the other day all within 3 mins.

Watch the thumbs down go on this post.....555

I agree.

But since obviously there will be no change in offering emojis on AN I recommend not to care about. I stopped reading posts starting with "somebody". I read only those with text and the AN name.

I wonder what those emoji-sick people did in the time when there was no emoji?

It is a syndrome, indeed. A psychological obviously.

How about this???....putting a thumbs down  automatically opens a text box into which you must post a response of no less than twenty words.....otherwise the forum is locked for you.

Yes. I got a thumbs down on the cocaine thread for a comment about being in transit between planes.

Smuggling is generally frowned upon, buddy. Besides, I thought you did pro-Putin/Trump trolling full time. Do you really need supplemental income?

TBH its NOT only on negative comments, even some useful information has thumbs down.

No, I am not upset about this emoji, its just that I cant understand why something good and useful gets a thumbs down.

That was the reason I wanted an explanation for this by someone with a knowledge in psychology.

Well, I tried it many times already.

If I asked: "prostitution is bad" I'll get dozens of "thumb downs", meaning prostitution is good.

Or when I gave an organisation chart of a company I got "thumbs down".

That was the proof that some follow their personal hate road. Whatever you post you'll get the thumb down (as it will follow here)

Many are cowards and hide behind an emoji. Anonymously it's easy to "fight". In real life they have a weak personality but anonymously they can play the hero.

Poor guys.

AN,  should interduce a,  Trump up and a trump down Emoji.

Just to get the girls really excited on here.

Wonder how many times a day,  it would be used on here. :whistling:

After this emoji was introduced here at AN, I found it appearing in a most surprising, confusing & irrelevant forms.

"I found it appearing in ... irrelevant forms".

What makes you say that other posters' opinions ("Thumbs Down") are irrelevant?!

I'd suggest the forum introduces a 'no politics' rule.

And put all new posters and problem posters on the 'all posts moderated before publication', which would effectively prevent all trolls, by restricting their ability to fight/argue/react to other posters in realtime.

yes .

But sounds like a lot of extra work for the mods.

ps wonder how many thumbs down you will get for that. :giggle:

2 recent posts got multiple thumbs down. I like it better than nothing. Means someone thought about your post and disagreed rather than thought nothing.

I also like it... but for a different reason.  There are a few AN outliers that believe and post utter nonsense on many subjects.  I often criticize those posts and I'm pretty sure they give me the 👎🏼 on even my most helpful posts.  I prefer to see them waste their time doing that than posting their misinformation.

And you gave it a thumbs down, oh the irony.

He did?  How do you know who posts the emojis?   You don't, obviously.

I think that anyone who uses emojis and likes to get their point across is a moron

Keeping in mind that AN is a business that must be one of the dumbest suggestions I've ever read.😄

How can you possibly know that... do you have access to AN's database?   Other posters opinions on your comments are "grudges" and they are "idiots"?   Some may suggest that you should rein in that apparent arrogance.

I also enjoy the thumbs-down emojis I get. It means I made "a difference" in someone's life.😉

Another forum I post on already implements those rules, and there is ZERO trolling or fighting, despite them having many more posters than AN.

Obviously they aren't funded by Google advertising, so every click doesn't count.

But they are free of the extreme puritanical censorship required by Google of it's 'affiliates'.

Ten thumbs down on ten posts all done in the space of three minutes across a spread of threads......get a grip

Well Lou, perhaps because, to those of us not on the spectrum, its bloody obvious.

Aye, isn't that a bit of delicious irony from our resident pedant?

IMO it's used by stalkers, and people who don't agree with the post, but are too gutless to post their reasons for disagreeing

"No politics" would remove 50% of ASEAN's content.

What criteria do you use to determine what a problem poster is?

& there’s no frik’n weird emoji obsession going on there either.

It would be great if someone with a knowledge of psychology, explain how and why this is so prevalent? Perhaps a misunderstood emoji?

Write something like "Genocide is evil and a crime against humanity," and watch how many "Down-Thumbs" you get.
There are some seriously sick people who frequent this forum.

I look at thumbs-down and they look like hearts.

Could your quote not be taken as BAD and so deserves a Thumb Down?

Yes and given the average of AN members its shows how childish, petty & pathetic some are.

...so "childish, petty & pathetic" that they winge about other posters' opinions/emojis about their 'superior' posts and call them childish, petty and pathetic even though the forum provides the facility!

Why?

Long shot but if you feel you have to use a Thumbs down Emoji why don't you explain to the members why you feel it desrves a thumb down ?
