Nan Hospital faced urgent patient evacuations Wednesday night as flash floods inundated parts of the facility. Torrential rains submerged the emergency department, prompting swift action to relocate patients to safety.

Dr. Natthorn Darapongsathaporn, the hospital's Deputy Director, confirmed the relocation of patients, with special focus on those requiring life support. The hospital coordinated with volunteers, soldiers, and local rescue units to transfer patients and safeguard medical equipment. Barriers were erected to protect critical areas like the ICU and operating rooms.

Outside the hospital, floodwaters covered the road, forcing staff to transport patients on stretchers over 100 metres through water. The hospital has advised those with minor ailments to visit alternative clinics and has urged the public to avoid the flooded areas, as water levels remain high.

Rescuers Battle Floods and Darkness

Rescue workers described the arduous conditions, wading through swift water to reach the hospital. An official noted that vehicles couldn't access the entrance, compelling them to trek 400 metres on foot. They raced against time in darkness and rain to transport patients, including those dependent on ventilators.

Ambulances Face Detours

The situation resulted in numerous roadblocks for emergency vehicles. Many routes became impassable, necessitating frequent detours. Ambulances struggled with the high water, leading to the use of high-clearance vehicles and military assistance to navigate access from a back entrance.

The hospital continues to monitor the situation and collaborate with local authorities to mitigate risks as water levels fluctuate. Immediate measures focus on ensuring the safety and well-being of patients and staff.
