Report Pattaya Revamps Cityscape: Telecom Cable Cleanup Begins

In a bid to transform city aesthetics and enhance public safety, Pattaya has embarked on a comprehensive project to tidy up its streets by removing tangled telecom cables. Spearheaded by Mayor Poramet Ngampichet, the 2025 Telecommunications Cable Organisation Project aims to declutter the skyline by cutting down unsightly, abandoned wires.

 

The initiative kicked off yesterday morning with a formal event led by Assistant Governor of PEA Region 2, Somak Wongwaiphanich. Key figures in attendance included Bang Lamung District Chief Phatcharaphat Sritanyanon, senior city officials, and representatives from telecom firms and cable providers. The Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) Pattaya Branch is supervising the project, showcasing a collaborative effort to beautify Pattaya.

 

Somak highlighted the project's support for the government's urban improvement agenda, stating, "We're working closely with Pattaya City to manage and streamline telecommunications cables, clearing away the eyesores that have long blighted our landscape."

 

The initial phase targets a 1.4-kilometre section of Sawang Fa Road, near the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation. Sixty utility poles will be cleared, with assistance from 16 telecom companies. Additionally, cable markers will be installed to clearly identify each provider’s lines, improving organisation and safety.

 

Mayor Poramet praised the concerted efforts, noting, "This is more than just an aesthetic upgrade. Enhancing our skyline also means boosting public safety and reducing the risk of cable-related accidents."

 

Beyond overhead cable removal, Pattaya is reinforcing its commitment to modern infrastructure by continuing efforts to bury power and telecom lines underground. Out of nine planned routes, six or seven are already completed. The next focus will be on Jomtien Second Road and Naklua area, from the Dolphin Roundabout to the Bang Lamung District Office. This initiative aims to establish 11 underground corridors, enhancing safety and creating a cleaner, more modern cityscape.

 

The project marks a significant step in Pattaya's urban development, blending modernity with functionality and paving the way for a safer, more visually appealing environment. The transformation not only aligns with national goals but also promises a boost to tourism by elevating the city’s charm for both residents and visitors alike.

 

Efforts like these, combined with Pattaya's ongoing infrastructure advancements, can lead to substantial economic benefits. Improved aesthetics and safety may attract more tourists and investors, potentially bringing a renewed vibrancy to the area and increasing property values.
