Efforts are ramping up to find 22-year-old Chetthawut Hom, who vanished after falling from a jet-ski near Naka Yai Island, off Phuket's east coast, on July 27.

Chetthawut, from Pa Khlok and employed by Kai Naka Co Ltd, was reported missing at 7:10 PM after the incident. He wasn't wearing a life jacket at the time, raising safety concerns among officials. The incident occurred during the often tempestuous southwest monsoon season, a period known for unpredictable sea conditions.

Warisara Muthametharit, an eyewitness, promptly informed Thalang Police, triggering a swift response as emergency services and specialised dive units launched an immediate search in the area.

Despite relentless efforts, Chetthawut remains missing as of July 29. Authorities have set up a dedicated search centre to coordinate the ongoing operation along with provincial and local police forces. Thalang Police Chief, Colonel Nikorn Chuathong, assured that the search is a top priority. The investigation is led by Lieutenant Colonels Anukul Nuket and Warawut Seb Sob, with additional support from Cherng Talay Police under Chief Colonel Ekkarat Phlaiduang and lead investigator Lieutenant Colonel Kittipong Nupheng.

In a call for enhanced safety measures, police are urging marine operators and visitors to exercise heightened caution, particularly during the current monsoon season. The importance of wearing life jackets during water activities has been re-emphasised to prevent future tragedies.

The search continues with hopes of bringing closure to Chetthawut's family and ensuring such incidents are minimized through better safety practices.
