Im looking at flights. Id love to be able to layover in BKK then fly over to Siem. ETA would be Sept.

I have a Cambodian Retirement Extension.

Should I anticipate any hassles? Any reports of problems for farangs transiting?

No problems entering Cambodia.

Yesterday  (4/8/2025) I flew back home in Siem Reap after a hospital appointment in Thailand.

I have an valid annual Cambodian Retirement Visa in my UK passport, along with older annual retirement Thai visas.

I believe these visas were the cause of hassle I experienced yesterday at the Air Asia check-in desk.

When I presented my passport with the flight reference documentation, it was queried regarding possession of a Cambodian visa (which I indicated) and where was my return flight to Thailand.

I explained I lived in Cambodia. The check-in lady took my passport and, after a phone call, disappeared with it. She returned and asked where I lived in Thailand to which I replied i live in Cambodia and not Thailand. I was then given back my passport and told I had been cleared to fly.

That sounds like typical confusion. See ya there

Nothing more sinister than poorly trained Air Asia check in staff not grasping your visa and residence situation.

Thanks, but with respect I have lived in Cambodia for the past 5 years and I regularly fly between the two countries. This was the first time I had to experience undignified Thai bureaucracy whilst my passport was being checked elsewhere. The situation kept the check-in queue long as my desk became unmanned when the lady disappeared with my passport.

I understood your post entirely, no need to " but, with respect ". You've just reiterated my point by further demonstrating that you've had an unfortunate one-off experience that has never happened to you on the same route in the past. Human error, it happens from time to time.

They might think you're a spy and send you off to face a firing squad, but other than that, no issues.
