My EVs come with 8 years warranty on the car and the traction battery so I don't plan to sell them until then. All 8 year old cars in Thailand are worth the same - practically nothing. As for the "80% of its value after 4 years" You have any evidence to support that or did you just pull that number out of your ...? Price new 2021 car: @Cardano doesn't own an EV @Cardano has never purchased insurance for an EV @Cardano thinks EV insurance doesn't reflect the replacement cost of the car @Cardano thinks EV insurance doesn't decrease each year as the car's value decreases @Cardano doesn't own an EV - he's not that stupid to fall for the hype! @Cardano has never purchased insurance for an EV - see above! @Cardano thinks EV insurance doesn't reflect the replacement cost of the car - Example; 2021 Mazda 2 1.3S, Roojai 2025 1st class premium B6,000, vehicle sum insured B400,000 vs 2023 Neta V Roojai 2025 1st class premium B9,500, vehicle sum insured B200,000, Battery replacement sum insured B200,000......go check it yourself. @Cardano thinks EV insurance doesn't decrease each year as the car's value decreases - don't think anything of the sort and never mentioned this, however it is a well document fact that insurance premiums for EV's are dramatically increasing worldwide, even a major Thai insurer not long ago announced it was actually looking at pulling out of the EV insurance market due to excessive repair costs driving premiums beyond an acceptable range.

August 4, 2025Aug 4 What is the reality behind the Toyota and Honda announcements in the past weeks in 'hydrogen ICE nearing reality'? Is this likely soon? Is it a threat to the emerging EV market? Or will they coexist?
August 4, 2025Aug 4 4 hours ago, Cardano said: You'll come to understand given enough time! I can only think of 1 better car at a better price point. That would be it's replacement when discontinued. The MG S5, pretty much same specs, but only ฿719k (promo now) & MSRP ฿739.9K. Only because it comes with life time battery warranty. We don't need any more range, as 3-4 hrs on the road is more than enough. There is no ICEV I'd even consider at that price point. That would restrict you to under performing, JP badged, 'made in TH' POS. NO THANKS

Still pushing the same BS, keep people thinking they should wait till ... well, when ever, as been 20 years already, and still nothing.

You were doing rather well up to this point, 2nd hand car prices in Thailand are very high. So saying they are worthless is just tosh. It will be interesting to see how an 8 year old EV compares with the same aged ICE. For me that will be the proof of the pudding.

My past 2 renewals of insurance were the same or cheaper than my last preimium on the ICEV verson of same car. The first year, the insured value was more than the cost. 2nd year, it was 10 or 20k less than the price or a new one.

August 4, 2025Aug 4 2 hours ago, PMZ said: What is the reality behind the Toyota and Honda announcements in the past weeks in 'hydrogen ICE nearing reality'? Honda and Toyota have been pushing H2 for years as an alternative to EVs. The economics don't make any sense. Currently the majority of hydrogen (∼95%) is produced from fossil fuels by steam reforming of natural gas. The downside to this process is that its by-products are major atmospheric release of CO2. Green hydrogen produced through electrolysis using renewable power costs US$10-15 per kg - once it has been transported to the filling station the selling price will be much more and make filling up a tank prohibitively expensive. Burning H2 rather than using a fuel cell will suffer from the same problems of cost and availability of H2

Hybrids have a tiny 1kWh battery and don't really make sense economically as they have to have an electric drivetrain the cost of which is rarely covered by increased fuel efficiency. A PHEV with 70-100km of EV only range does mean that regular commuting is covered and longer trips are done with the ice. Having owned a PHEV and 2 full EVs, the EVs win hands down.

Clearly you don't know what you're talking about. From the CEO of BYD: "BYD’s chairman Wang Chuanfu unveiled the fifth generation of the hybrid technology that achieves a record low fuel consumption of 2.9 liters per 100 km (62.1 miles) on depleted batteries at an event in Shaanxi province’s capital Xian. With a fully charged battery and a full gasoline tank, the technology can ensure a driving range of 2,100 kilometers, Wang said in the city where the company’s first automaking factory was located." So even BYD is now betting on the Hybrid engine, and conceding that Toyota was right all along. Hardly surprising: "Plug-in hybrids priced from 79,800 yuan have made up the bulk of BYD’s sales in the past three years, with an accumulated 3.6 million such cars sold by the company." So even BYD made most of its profits from hybrids, not EVs. https://www.cnbc.com/2024/05/28/byd-unveils-new-hybrid-tech-as-battle-with-gasoline-rivals-heats-up.html
