Here in SEA there is more of an obsession with new things, trouble is they have have the moey to pay cash so they borrow far more than they can afford.

Why when they get to retirement age, they have no savings, money to invest or equity built up.  Strangely, they wonder why.

The really silly folks spend thousands for the wedding (and dress), instead of putting a down payment on a house.  By the time that's paid off, the baby arrives, then they're totally screwed :coffee1:

  • Yea, I'm so stupid and fell for it hard.   I hate saving 40k-50k THB a year energizing my POS BEV that out performs all ICEV that I've owned, and cost less to maintain & operate.    That

Simple, the attitude is live for today and worry about tomorrow when it comes. Thailand isnt the only country to adopt that attitude.

no, I didn’t miss any of that, having sold to EV‘s in the past few years and bought two more, none of what you said is true

Maybe for you it isnt true but that does not make it a universal fact

Neither does what you said.

I'm happy  to have electric drive componentry in a car providing it is done to improve overall performance. Renault's E-Tech Clio comes to mind.

You are joking, right :cheesy:

Quite the under performer, for the expected price of ~€20k / 744,140.

Cars are low spec'd & silly priced in the UK.

The ~€20k version at silly price ... :cheesy:

... "TCe Turbo is a 1.2-liter 4-cylinder petrol engine with a turbocharger system, producing a maximum power of 113 horsepower, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, with acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 10.1 seconds, 2 seconds faster than the previous model with only 89 horsepower, with a DCT automatic transmission."

HEV version, price ???, not much better performance wise ... :cheesy:

... "E-Tech Hybrid, a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder petrol engine with a maximum power output of 158 horsepower, CO2 emissions of only 89 g/km, can be driven solely on electricity for up to 80% of city driving, with acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 8.3 seconds, almost 1 second faster than the old model.

Just get a real BEVr, the Renault 5 EV, if it has to be a Renault, although also silly priced :cheesy:

Entry-level Evolution:Starts from £22,995 / ฿988,875  :w00t:

Mid-range Techno:Available with the 40kWh battery  :cheesy: for around £24,995 / ฿1.074.883

or the 52kWh pack for £26,995 / ฿1,160,89

My last EV was a Porsche Taycan Turbo, my current EV is a BYD Seal Performance, both capable of 0-100 in under 4 seconds and both handle superbly.

I have had many fast & luxurious cars, I am 100% certain EV's offer much more and are the way ahead.

Yet again we find someone parroting something they heard or read somewhere which, because it supports an ill-thought-through prejudice, was memorised to be regurgitated at the slightest provocation before you could say "critical thinking".

Yet again we hear from an embarrassed idiot who fell for the con, spent a fortune installing solar power so he can claim it doesn't cost him anything to run his toy Duracell bunny car from china.

I'm only reading a poster doubling down on their ignorance.  Though have to admit, the ... 'toy Duracell bunny car' ... gave me a chuckle.

Suggest you quit, before embarrassing yourself any further,

Nobody installs solar just for their car.  Already having solar at the house (as we did, well contracted) was a good incentive to buy a BEV.  Or if having a BEV, would certainly be an added incentive to add solar to the house, more for the house than the car.  Having simply for the car, you'd have to be an idiot, if savings was your motivation.

Electric in TH, isn't that expensive, and solar just for the car, not really the best idea.  Our 10kW system w/10kWh ESS, would run 300k+ THB to have installed now.

And using PEA, @ 231.5 THB, for a full charge / 360 kms, (for our BEV) on just a 300k THB system, would take 466k kms for ROI,   That's ~26 yrs of driving, since we average 18k kms a year.

And if you were alive 120 years ago you would be saying these new fangled motor cars will never catch on.

Thanks for the statistics.

0-60mph times are OK in a bar or on a forum but useless on the roads I drive on. I'm usually at the traffic lights behind Lung in his HiAce with a manual gearbox more for pulling stumps than actual road driving. So 60-100kph or 80 to 120 kph info would be more useful for me in making purchasing decisions. Or some idea of hill climbing ability which in  electric vehicle means hauling all those batteries uphill.

I do note that BYD has a SEAL 5 DM-i which might be of interest but I don't really drive 4 wheels that much. One day in my dotage my wife will have to take over driving so the BYD might be the answer. Two dogs can fit in the truck with the 60/40 split down.

I'm still buying lottery tickets for my Toyota GR Corolla. Even a single  3 Mil win would work for the down payment and it is "auto" for the wife.

Maybe this will help you understand ICEV vs BEV performance ...

... ICEV hp & torque @ xxxx rpms

... BEV hp & torque @ instantly

Comes in quite handy in your above query ... Class over  :coffee1:

Still harping on about the one trick pony stuff. I am asking about real world driving not some fantasy induced armchair statistics. 🤡🃏

At 60 or 80 kph the much touted torque at zero rpm advantage has been lost. Instantly or not.

I'm also happy with my windows/Linux PC and not interested in attending the evangelical Crystal Cathedral. As were not many others

I rarely drive faster than 60kph, had my EV 2 months, did get up to 65kph once, that's about it.

Shopping at Makro, local coffee shops, local park, no need for speed, speed kills!

Toyota GR Corolla ... that's one way overpriced, underperforming POS ...

Whoa ...

The 2024 Toyota GR Corolla (8AT AWD Minorchange) is officially priced at ฿4,199,000 in Thailand  :w00t:

The 2024 Toyota GR Corolla produces 273 lb-ft of torque from its 1.6L turbocharged 3-cylinder engine, with peak torque available at 3,000 rpm

MG 4 XPOWER cost ... ฿1,119,900

 ... 443 lb-ft torque for the high-performance XPOWER

Our custom house build, w/solar, total of 1 rai land, (1/4 rai more coming), BEVs (car, MB, ebike), cost less than that T. GR Corrolla price tag.  But it, GR, does get to 100 kph, 3 seconds quicker than our MG ZS 🥵

You can't fix stupid.

Give it up ... I prefer to be retired in TH, instead of dreaming about a car, I'll never own.

Good luck with the lottery :cheesy:

Insufficient range for me and

Quote

it doesn’t have the handling finesse of a Volkswagen Golf GTI,

In milder weather conditions I was getting at least 200 miles between charges,

It's like the old Kawasaki joke. It might be fun but you don't want anyone to see you riding one.

I'll keep buying the lottery tickets.

Range is irrelevant, as we're not driving more the 3+ hrs without stopping for toilet break & a munch.  Car is done charging before we're ready to leave.

New joke now ... "damn, you still driving an under powered Dino fuel vehicle, that's a damn shame"

I use to cruise around on a rice burner also (Honda 900cc) while those Harley, Norton & Triumph owner were scared to go further from the house, than their friends with pick ups would go to retrieve them :cheesy:

Would you class the Porsche Taycan or Rimac Nevera or Yang Wang U9 or Tesla Model S Plaid as one trick ponies?
