Google Chrome (my browser of choice) works seamlessly on Linux.

Interesting that you have made the change to Linux but still use Google Chrome..........

Isn't Firefox the integral browser in most Linux distributions?

Saying that pretty much most browsers should work.........

Sounds like you are signing in to Windows using a Microsoft account which would enable saving to the cloud by default. I use a "local" account which I created at  Win 11 install time and don't have an

Advanced users who want to stay on Windows 10 might do an in-place upgrade to Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021. Supported until 2032.

You need to sign into one drive using any Microsoft account.

Just right click on the OneDrive icon and follow the sign in instructions.

If you have more than one computer do the same on it/them and your OneDrive files will be synced automatically.

You can also set whether they automatically download to your computers on login or they just stay in the cloud.

What on earth gave you the idea that I would want to use Onedrive? It is currently empty and should stay that way.

I saw an article yesterday that said Microsoft had embedded a routine into the Win11 upgrade to try and force people into signing up for Office 365, which uses Onedrive as default storage. Apparently a move to try and  mitigate the cost of free upgrades.

How good are antivirus programs?

Why take the risk?

Some people here have already switched to Windows 11 and it seems fine.

Depends which one you use. All of them are constantly playing catch up but for me Bit Defender is what choose

well if its anything like what happened to xp and 7 one will still be able to use it for ages. I was a land surveyor / construction engineer and some of my best software would not work on 10 so I still have a few pcs back in the uk with xp and 7 running both still work ok but xp is struggling with streaming some videos

I have never had an issue with viruses since I ditched all my anti virus software that tells me something too

Try using virtual machines on a newer version of Windows 10.

I used to work for an agency of U.S. government.   They spent a truck load of taxpayer money to have a software program developed to operate a portable communications receiving system that would mount on top of what ever vehicle you wanted to use it with, vs. being permanently built into a vehicle for covert operations use.  It was loaded into one of the first generation laptops that had a touch screen and an O.S. of Windows 8 SE.

A major problem was discovered when the engineers attempted to install the software on a computer with Windows XP.   It would not work as the software was specifically built for 8 SE.

When the engineering team traveled around to the different offices upgrading our laptops from XP to Win 10, I asked one engineer for a copy of the Win 8 SE communications software.   When asked why, I told him, I want to install it on XP computer and run it in a 8 SE virtual machine.   I was told it would not work.

4 months later, that engineer team sent out an email telling all offices that they would provide new Win 10 computers that would run the 8 SE communications software in a virtual machine.   They would provide training to all users on how to set up and use the virtual machines.
