Thailand has decided against withdrawing its troops from the border, despite ongoing discussions at the General Border Committee (GBC) meeting in Malaysia, lasting until August 7. Lt Gen. Boonsin Phadklang, commander of the Second Army Region, expressed hope for positive outcomes from these talks. The objective is to reach a beneficial agreement between the parties involved.

Lt Gen. Phadklang highlighted that any potential escalation after August 7 hinges on the conditions set by the countries' leaders during the discussions. A mutual understanding on key issues could pave the way for resolving tensions efficiently. It's crucial to note that the Thai forces remain stationed within their territory.

Drone activity has made life difficult for Thai forces, with reports of unidentified devices causing disturbances. Nevertheless, measures are in place to address the problem, leading to improvements in the situation. A Cambodian man was recently arrested in Prachuap Khiri Khan province under suspicion connected to drone activities, but investigations continue to unfold, reported Thai Newsroom.

In a humanitarian concern, Lt Gen. Phadklang revealed the efforts made to address complaints about the odour from Cambodian soldiers' corpses along the border. Cooperation with Cambodia has commenced to remove these bodies, which pose health risks if left unattended.

Though the situation remains tense, continued dialogue and cooperation are considered vital steps toward achieving stability. We will closely monitor the outcome of the GBC meeting, as it could significantly impact regional relations and border management.
