Beatles made simple crappy music

With the weird ideas like this you have nothing to do with discussing rock music. Go discuss latest transgender super hits or whatever.

  • "What happened to Rock n Roll music"... well, a combination of gay unmanly nonsense that has swept society with silly kids thinking people like Taylor Swift is offering an answer... may I throw up.

Mainstream pop. I prefer real music.

Rock music mainly existed from 1965 to 1975. It is a historical and cultural phenomenon — a mix of Black African roots with the deepest European understanding of the post-war, post-apocalyptic reality. You either grasp this narrative, or not. Don’t speculate about what your little mind can’t comprehend.

Alice Cooper just released a new album.  It's the original band members.  Except for Glen who passed away.

Too bad they disbanded when they did - such a great band in the early 70's.

Mark Knopfler is nobody. Even comparing somebody like him to Beatles is an act of blasphemy.

Just a much better guitarist and songwriter. The Beatles just got things started. Even Badfinger were more talented.

So many worthless and second-rate performers are mentioned above as examples of first-class artists, and so many brilliant performers are not mentioned at all, that I’m not at all surprised rock has long been dead — just like most people who once had the ear to tell gold from fakes.

Which just shows some aren't as up to speed on what's good and what's not as others. Just saying Mark Knopfler is nobody is all we have to hear. Some follow the crowds, meaning mainly younger fans, and some really understand what makes good music. I'm guessing you would say David Gilmour is a nobody and Pink Floyd is psyche garbage.

Billion Dollar Babies was a favorite when it arrived.

Actually rock originated from a mixture of blues and R&B, along with some country and Elvis and Chuck Berry were also those who brought heavier music into the limelight. Rock started in the 50's that way, and continued with innovations until the 80's. From there it was mostly influenced by prior rock musicians, although progressive rock still expanded with more melodic soloing and keyboard use.

Now it's splintered off into tiny sub-genres.

🥱 Ah, one of those resident seppo trolls. Guess it’s all tongue in cheek, or should be given the op, but always amusing when a yank harps on about music. A bit like them musing art, literature, history or sport even and their bastardisations. Just no. One could bite (alright, america apparently gave us r & r, jazz, country and hip hop—lol on all counts, throwaway incidental white noise meant for the lift), but ain’t worth getting into because it’d be akin to an attention seeking demented toddler arguing with its calm and collected all knowing mother.

But, yes, rock & roll was it? 😂 A bit like jazz; you know they’re not serious, are just trolling or don’t know what they’re talking about, because it’s not really music is it. Stick to Trump guys. Next.

How much of today's "music" is computerised? Is the noise you hear when you are walking past some club not mostly called Rap? Music is not really music unless it is played by musicians using musical instruments.

Of course there are better artists than Elvis now, who make better music, but I just listened to Blue Suede Shoes on the car radio and  it still reaches the parts others can't reach.

No idea why.

Better artists than Elvis???? Please name just one, or what about the guy who Elvis himself described as "The greatest singer in the world"? I am referring of course to Roy Orbison.

I just cannot ever see anyone  being better singers than that pair.

Country is closer to R&R nowadays.....

Not the real country "country" of yesteryear......

Real country music is finished and has been since George Jones and Vince Gill.

Well, Joe Brown isn't, and he saw it with his own eyes.

Joe Brown was another of the really good pop singers from the late fifties and early sixties along with Billy Fury, Ricky Nelson, Buddy Holly. I could go on.

In a real sense you could say that rap music killed rock'n roll.

The young now listen to hip-hop and rap with a smattering of K-Pop, which is far removed from rock'n roll anyway.

If Rap music killed rock'n roll, maybe that was karma, after all whites ripped off black music. Then black music came back with a vengeance and took over again, ,ie Rap and Hip Hop.

Hip Hop, Rap. Music???????????????????????????????????????????

Elvis was a good singer, let's not pretend he wasn't, however, he played no musical instruments to any high standard and never wrote his own music. Nobody in their right mind would say he had the musical talent of a Prince or Elton John or today the Eilish siblings.

That's not saying Elvis was not a brilliant performer and singer, he was outstanding, but he wasn't an outstanding musician or songwriter.

No one can be outstanding at everything? But being a great singer and an excellent actor, is that not enough. Prince or Peltin Elton, singers??

Hendrix is not the Beatles

His music, like the Beatles, was simple, poppy and easy to listen to and enjoy, much because of the dance rhythms

You seem to have a very superficial understanding of the Beatles as well as Elvis.

Elvis didn't write his own music so the comparisons  - some of them comically awry - you make are ill placed. But interestingly the two geniuses in your list - Bob Dylan and Mark Knopfler - both revered Elvis.Dylan said he was completely devastated when Elvis died and considered him to be the most accomplished interpreter of his music.

Actually I know quite a lot about music. I didn't say Elvis wrote his music. He was a performer with a distinct voice, an innovator who got things rolling, along with a few others. Bob Dylan is a lyricist, with a fair voice at best. Gordon Lightfoot himself was revered by Dylan, as Lightfoot was a better singer and writer also. I have 50K cd's for a reason, and they weren't burned haphazardly but because I know who's good and not so good.

In one interview in 1957 Elvis said "Let's face it, I can't sing like Fats Domino. I know that.".

Elvis repeatedly called Fats Domino the King of Rock'n Rll.

And Blueberry Hill is pretty good.

But Roy Orbison was not around at that time, he never arrived until about 1962 and there is no way Fats Domino was anywhere near as good as Roy Orbison.

Paul Rodgers and Freddie Mercury are better singers and also write (wrote) their own lyrics. Elvis had a good voice yes, but Rodgers and Mercury were (are) better. Steve Walsh of Kansas is another.

I would have to disagree. Mercury was a more histrionic singer than Elvis, but it's hard to imagine Mercury doing a better version of Can't Help falling in Love, Then again Elvis could improve on We are the Champions.

Mercury and Rodgers have (had) more range, along with writing their own music. It's hard to compare singers and say who's best if they're all good, but all around Rodgers is probably the best all around singer/songwriter, and a l0t more varied in his music.

Well, if you include songwriting it's not a contest really, as Elvis' songwriting was confined to writing a few words for some songs.

If you just take performance and singing though, Elvis is probably better than Mercury, in my view.

If this is rock’n’roll, I want my old job back
