Torrenting

So, as I understand it, you go to the website, find the link, go through two re-directs and then begin to download to your HDD. Once it has downloaded to your HDD, you cast from your laptop to your Android Box/TV? Is this correct?

Absolutely correct, well done.

What I meant is that if I was out and about and I wanted to organise a movie night with a close friend, I can do that from wherever I am. So we can discuss what we want to watch whilst out doing something else. It will be ready on the TV without having to do anything else.

So you just discuss what you want and it appears ready on your TV without having to do anything. Wow. Sounds like magic.

Or if I'm on a bus with no entertainment, I can stream something on my phone or download if the Internet connection on the journey might be unreliable.

Yes, streaming on a bus is one of my main concerns also. I particularly love watching feature films on my phone whilst on the bus.

Do you take your TV out everywhere with you?

I'm usually with a girl when I go out, so I tend not to watch movies on tablet or phone when I'm out, but I can see that you and your close friend have a different lifestyle.

Streaming from someone running a hooky website from a server in their bedroom in India can result in interrupts, lags and the things you describe.

I've tested the streaming on that site and it's flawless. I should also add that all TV shows and films are neatly organized alphabetically, whereas since you use torrents, you'd have to do some detective work to find what you want. Enjoy.

You are bound to your laptop and TV.

Yes, like I'm "bound" to my mouth and the plate and fork when I eat. Why anyone would watch a film on a phone or tablet when they have a TV only you will know of course.

It seems that you are stuck in some time warp, wherein time has stood still for ten to fifteen years

A bit rich from the man using 26 year old P2P technology to get his media. Incredibly primitive.

  • Oh sure….it’s totally ok to be a thief here.   Why not just pay the $5 to rent a movie from Apple or pony up  $10 a month for a Netflix/Amazon Prime account instead of stealing it?

  • If money is so tight that you can’t afford to rent a movie….

  • I've been torrenting in Thailand for over 14 years without a VPN and never had any problems.

You literally have no idea what you are going on about. The mind of a child. A bit of a stupid one.

Your system is outdated and clunky.

You live in the 90s using a Napster knock off.

Really primitive and old fashioned.

Why are you making yourself look not so intelligent in thread after thread?

You obviously don't have the slightest clue of what we are discussing. Again, it's not an intelligent debate. Just feels like trying to discuss the household budget with a three year old. Their mind just doesn't have the experience to take an overview. Stand down man, you are embarrassing yourself.

I guarantee your paid companion would be impressed if you could just pull up her favourite movie on your phone or TV in 4k in seconds, as if by magic. Instead she would have to stand by whilst you mess around on your laptop and then wait for it to download and then ....zzzzzzzzzzz

Sort it out...move into the 21st century.

@BritManToo already answered this in an earlier post. It's an optional add-on for 3BB internet subscribers.

What are the benefits of using a VPN?

I always torrent without.

I agree, the vpn hides your location, which is not an issue in thailand.

Problem is in software etc that might have viruses.  Saying that I'm a huge Torrent downloader and never had a problem.

But I'd agree a good virus checker a good idea. But don't forget many keygen apps will show up as unwanted. (even the bittorrent app itself shows up as unwanted)

Torrenting is so 90s, it's not necessary anymore. You can simply download any TV Series or Film from dedicated websites in mp4 format, and with super fast internet.

That's much easier and safer than using Torrent.

and where do you find these dedicated websites and what nae do they go by?

Easier to stream IMO

https://fmhy.net/

is a Great resource

I’m not here to tell anyone what to do, however, I suggest posters just think about free streaming or download websites. Regular people do not just setup mass streaming servers for no profit, these sites are generally Russian, North Korean or Chinese run, they are flakey at best. They are run to make money from dodgy popups and data harvesting. They are just one part of the tech wing of organized crime groups, the servers are housed in shipping container data centers in Europe.

One popular defense is that “I use a popup blocker”. Yes, you can use popup blockers, but the popup and malware still comes to your computer, it is sitting there, I guess it would be in your web cache, it’s just you don’t see it or the button to press. There are still trackers embedded in the website code. You aren’t going to get a virus from the actual video file, but there are reasons that these sites exist. They may be “OK” to use now, but in the future are you have been drawn into a false sense of security, who knows? Would you be happy to let surplus processing power be used by the North Koreans to mine bitcoin in exchange for watching a bit of TV?

Streaming servers on this kind of scale use a bandwidth, this isn’t free. To counter this, they reencode the video and audio to lower bitrate. If it works for you, then it’s no problem, but personally I don’t have time for low quality audio and video. There is also talk about malware in the subtitle files from these sites, or when you accept to stream the subtitles, you compromise your network.

Tbh, no one cares about torrenting any longer, the music and video streaming platforms have changed the way we consume media - most people just roll over and pay for streaming services, the number of people using torrents offset against the whole world having a Spotify account is minuscule. Music artists and record companies dont need to sell physical media any longer, they can give it away free. TV companies have shifted, and you get their content “free” with your internet subscription. A few years ago BBC was playing cat and mouse with the VPN industry, nowadays, they have given up, imho, they would probably go free to all territories if it wasn’t so tied down with the UK TV license.

Anyway, I just wanted to post a warning. Some members may not be so tech-savvy, maybe someone mentioned these free streaming sites as a good way to access content, just be aware they aren’t necessarily safe.

How is a torrent unsafe?

It’s not unsafe. Modern updated torrent clients are effective at patching the code that may leave your system venerable, just stick to modern clients like qbit. The danger is not in the video file, it’s virtually impossible (and not worth anyone’s time) to add a virus to a video file. mp4 is one of the most venerable filetypes. The danger is mostly  in the code of the website you are using, data harvesting, site owners can make money. I have a feeling most free trackers are Russian owned sites with their annoying ads, harmless adverts encouraging you To download an even more annoying ad sponsored game, like the one on AN or YouTube.

I would encourage people to seek out invite only sites, they have been mentioned here already, most of these places are community run, often funded by the admin or donations from members.

I only use PB, and only trusted uploaders.   More due to laziness, as can't be bothered sorting through different sites looking for movies / series that will disappoint anyway.

I rarely make through 15-30 mins of a movie, or 2 or 3 eps of any series.  7+ my A$$ :coffee1:

To add to what @recom273 is asserting, most access to even popular sites such as PB, have embedded redirects that you need to click through in order to get the material that you need.

There is rarely a need to go through such a rigmarole these days. Definitely no need to download the whole thing if you just want to evaluate whether it's worth going forward with watching more.

there's a lot of bad movies and TV shows, but there are also quite a few worth watching.

so you stop listening to a song after 15 seconds by that logic?

Don't be silly, but this is more than enough time to put an end to the misery ...

I didn't create an account, and can watch all the movies.

But it does ask you to create an account to download a movie.

Me too,

I have a tower pc connected to my TV.

I can also play direct using the built in TCL browser.

But not having a mouse connected to the tv is a bit of a pain.

Picture quality the same, but the browser has an annoying button centre right.

...using the TV as a monitor. That can work.

Cant remember the last time my laptop wasn't connected to the TV as a monitor.  Sit or lay on bed, with wireless keyboard & mouse, and 55" beats 14' monitor any day.  It's a smart TV with connectivity, but I've never used it as.   As someone stated, navigating the TV with the remote, not having keyboard or mouse would suck.

Main reason I rarely use my phone for anything but a camera & GPS.   If you see a reply of mine that sort of doesn't make sense (besides that), auto corrected or misspelled words, then I was using my phone.
