I do agree, this did play into many couples staying together in my country in past generations. No way for a female to have economic security outside marriage. Dissertations have studied and explored. Here in Thailand? Lacking western economic safety net programs, still encourages economic security for female in staying together.

I married a fairly unattractive girl, so I'm good in that respect.

If I had to guess from my experience with Thai people, I'd say Thai people would ignore the question, thinking "none of your f***ing business", which is exactly what I'd say to anyone asking me such a question.

It’s still amazes me the number of foreign men that marry bar ladies or ladies connected to the sex industry.  They take the ex bar Lady back to their own country. Tell everyone she worked in 7/11 or  was a housemaid at a hotel or she was a shop assistant. Heard it all before. They have ex sex worker written all over them.

If people stopped calling them "bar girls" and called them what they are, prostitutes or hookers (as they are labelled in their home countries), they might not be so quick to marry and import them.

Guessing the type you, and many here, have been with are likely working girls and shouldn’t really be lumped in with ‘Thai women’ in the faithfulness dept. I do know that Thai males tend to be notorious philanderers, going by the antics of happily married friends. Whatever. Marriage just doesn’t work for humans, who don’t possess the level of commitment of the swan, for example. We are very broken creatures, ruled by ego, and generally cannot mate the one partner for life. But yes, Thais do seem to F around a lot. 😋

You can't judge normal Thai women by what you meet in tourist areas like Pattaya, etc. That's not a fair assessment. The majority of girls you meet in a place like Pattaya or Bangkok, who work in bars or massage shops, are single mothers desperately trying to eke out a living. Thai women are generally very loyal to their partners, and it's the men who start messing around and leaving them with children and no support. Once a woman is single with children, she has limited choices to support herself. Apart from having young children to look after, she also has family relying on her. It's a very hard life.

 

There are lots of non-sex workers looking for good partners. Just do the research. If you're looking for a good woman, you can't do much better than Thai.

I'd bet my bottom dollar that the Philippines is MUCH higher. You'd never get honest answers because adultery is a crime. It also takes many years and a boatload of money to have a marriage annulled (no divorce there), which most people cannot afford. Shacking up with someone new is a normal practice.

There's another aspect of this that does not really seem to be discussed, and that is the ease of which those options are available in here. In the West, it's difficult and expensive and the cost of indiscretion is enormous. Here it's just simply not look down looked upon in the same way. 

I say this with peace and love.  If anyone is insane enough to get married to a Thai babe in this country, just realize that she will be F-ing her Village boyfriends, the sponsors she "did not forget", her real Thai Boyfriend on the side and maybe a few Tyrones and Chads while you were gone.

 

Such is life here.  Sex is secondary to a relationship.  Money is #1.
