Gold Bar Tariff Surprise Gives New Blow to Switzerland

 

(Bloomberg) — A US move to put tariffs on imports of one-kilogram and 100-ounce gold bars is unleashing fresh turmoil in the global bullion market and threatening to upend trade flows from Switzerland and other key refining hubs.

Managers at two major gold refineries in Asia, who did not want to be named discussing sensitive information, said they are pausing shipments to the US until there is more clarity on the tariffs.

One-kilo gold bars are the most common form traded on Comex, the world’s largest gold futures market, and comprise the bulk of Switzerland’s bullion exports to the US. The levy will add to troubles for Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter after Trump handed Switzerland the highest country tariff among developed nations.

My God Swiss chocolate is the best in the world though. How could America ever hope to compete with its Hersheys and other abominations. 

 

I would go so far as to say that Swiss chocolate is the gold standard of chocolates.

As you can see from the article, it doesn't apply to Switzerland only, but all gold in the world, as Asian refiners have stopped all exports.

2/3 of all gold is refined in Switzerland......so they are right in the frame.

US produces gold too.

The Swiss have plenty of other countries to export to.

 

Audit Fort Knox too.

I have had some Belgium chocolate that is right up there.

Swiss chocolate is pretty good, and although I'm not a sweets eater, I did have Swiss chocolate when I was younger,but I've had some that are much better, including Ghirardellis, Godiva, and a couple from this list I'll provide which were unreal Artisan chocolates and some from the US. More likely he wants the Swiss able to play Fenders & Gibsons, eat God's own rib-eyes, drive blinged out Mustangs & Chargers and drink bourbon. Fair trade and an end to countries taking advantage of Uncle Sam here we come.

They are also way behind the rest of Europe in replacing their population with young military age male muslims. Trump only count goods in his complex maff when calculating taxing American consumers.  Sure, there is a trade deficit in GOODS.

 

However, the US has a $40 billion SERVICES surplus with Switzerland.

 

And don't we have overall trade surplus with several countries being hit with "reciprocal" tariffs?
