Hospital checking visa

I have a copy of the "face page" of my passport on a laminated card, with the latest-extension on the flip-side.  I go to a copy-shop to update this immediately after I get a new 1-year extension from immigration.  It is immediately visible if opening my wallet.  Also my Thai-Health card, with "my hospital" stickied on the back.

Sounds very good.

So these are 2 cards?

I don't understand what you mean by Thai-Health card.  I do have a foreign insurance card in my wallet, Thais ignored it, they obviously didn't understand the pictures on the card (a red cross and a helicopter - maybe a pickup would be better).

I might exchange it for the patient card of "my hospital", with a 24hrs number of someone higher up there.

Important: add contact details of a "relative" (your ex from SC will do) who will be responsible to make a call to 1669. Strangers are very reluctant to call 1669 even it doesn't cost them anything. They call the body snatchers,  these are faster.

  • Quite understandable, as if you are an overstay, I'd be asking for payment in advance.  If you're the type of person that would overstay, you'd be the type of person that would stick them with a bill.

  • And when you asked why - which you surely did, right? - what did they say?

Don't some types of visa extension required health insurance?   Maybe checking for that?

That's really a wild idea.

Ambulance brings patient,  semi-conscious. Uniformed staff - nurses? doctors? nurse assistants? technicians? cashiers? - all around.

Who might be the one interested in my pp?

Famous last words: "This is my current passport number!"

Cashier would be more interested in your deposit than PP I reckon....... the rest they wont give a flying hoot.

thread about nothing.

The thread was about 1984.

The poster who realized this got his post deleted by the moderator.

I said it very clearly in the OP, for anyone who wants to understand it.

A typical pricing structure of a top-end Thai private hospital is

- Thai price

- resident foreigner

- tourist

A second-tier hospital (Yanhee, Vejthanee etc) often also accepts social security patients,  different service,  cheaper prices.

Not only the private hospitals..... the Govt ones are at it too with some charging double for Farangs.

Oh people understood the OP.

That's why it received 11 basically negative emoji.

1984 indeed. When I go on mini break Wednesday at hotel in Pattaya I will ask for probable case for them to want my pp at check in.

If they check my permission of stay stamp it will constitute invasion of privacy.

Last hotel I stayed in (Hua Hin) I watched what the check-in staff did with my passport. They made a photocopy of the data page and wrote the date my next 90 day report was due on it.

The Passport face-page and latest permitted-stay stamp are on the same card - front and back.

The Thai health card is for the national-health system, which I got into by working here.  One year working minimum is required, then you go through some rigamarole to keep paying yourself after no longer working, which requires having a yellow-book and pink-ID.  Then, you pay ~420 Baht/mo fixed-rate for full coverage in public hospitals - or, use private, and get the public-rate service-cost refunded.

Thx.

I thought the Thai health card might be the card four social security, thanks for clarifying.

When I asked hospital staff why they were checking my Passport and Visa, they replied that they wanted to know if I was a tourist or resident.

They further explained that my Retirement Visa classed me as resident and that I would get the Thai price. Which also tells us that tourists are being ripped off for more.

I still get the impression that Farangs pay more than Thais.

you get the impression?

The hospitals have price lists with Thai price and expat price (approved by the government) . So it should be loud and clear we pay more!

Is that legal? And what can we do about it?

it is legal and nothing you can do about it !!!

The Thai government approves two tier pricing.

I clearly remember that day when farang freedoms were taken away....
