Australia to recognise Palestinian state in September

Australia announces recognition of Palestinian statehood at the UN, echoing steps by the UK, France, and Canada. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese highlighted commitments from the Palestinian Authority to demilitarise, hold elections, and acknowledge Israel’s right to exist. He emphasised that a two-state solution remains humanity's best hope for peace in the Middle East.

Australia's decision comes as Israel faces mounting pressure to halt the conflict in Gaza. Israel claims recognising a Palestinian state rewards terrorism. Since Saturday, five deaths from starvation in Gaza raised the toll to 217, with the Hamas-run ministry reporting over 61,000 deaths due to Israel's military actions since 2023.

The conflict traces back to an October 7 attack by Hamas, resulting in 1,200 deaths and 251 hostages. The Palestinian Authority, managing parts of the West Bank, sees international recognition as bolstering its people's self-determination. Albanese confirmed that President Mahmoud Abbas assured Hamas would be excluded from any future state governance.

Albanese discussed the move with leaders from the UK, France, New Zealand, and Japan, expressing hope for international collaboration. Last weekend, a massive pro-Palestinian march crossed Sydney Harbour Bridge, underlining public support.

The US remains unmoved, with Vice-President JD Vance reiterating no plans to recognise Palestine, citing governance issues. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned countries supporting Palestinian statehood, calling it "shameful."

Netanyahu referenced hypothetical attacks near Australian cities to justify Israel’s actions, amidst criticism over its Gaza takeover plans. UN ambassadors have condemned these plans, seeking alternative paths to peace.

Spain, Ireland, and Norway joined the recognition of Palestine last year, aspiring to spur a ceasefire. With 147 of 193 UN member states recognising Palestine, it maintains "permanent observer state" status, allowing participation without voting rights.

Thanks for sharing your perspective. The decision to recognize Palestinian statehood, as outlined by leaders like Prime Minister Albanese, is framed as a step forward a two-state solution to foster peace and stability. It’s a complex issue with diverse viewpoints, and open, respectful discussion can help us better understand all sides. Would you like to elaborate on your concerns?

Yes.

What is going on is Palestine is being rewarded for the mass rape and murder of kids on October 7.

Great job Tarquin.

Terrorism has been proven to work.

That is my concern.

They might want to say where this non existing state is going to be

It turns out it wasn’t such a good idea to back Hamas as a means to thwart Palestinian Statehood.

Uhud

That is my concern.

True, the fake Prophet himself is quoted in Bukhari saying 'I was victorious by terror' that is who they follow to the letter. The tragedy for the world is that this terrorist was not killed at the Battle of Uhud, wounded and hid in a cave like a coward after running away.

The Palestinian Authority is corrupt to the core and supported by Iran. Iran doesn't want a two state solution. Iran doesn't want Israel to exist.

On the plus side Saudi Arabia recognises Israel and considers Hamas a terrorist gang of murderers. All this is only about the destruction of Israel, never about land.

Most countries don’t see Hamas as terrorists. Hamas don’t want the destruction of Israel, granted, they used to.

Don't know if Australia has many Threats from Terrorists that have been thwarted by Israeli intelligence, but the UK has been warned on possible attacks in the past due to intelligence passed on from Mossad. Due to the UK now recognising Palestine Israel might not want to help and not pass information that could be helpful to our Government.

These leaders are providing financial or military aid to Israel.

What's antisemitic about killing and raping over 1000 Jewish kids at a festival as a means to eliminating Israel "from the river to the sea".

I'm sure you can work it out.

Btw, Israel has killed over 1000 babies since Oct 7, who never saw their first birthday, more than the entire number of civilians on that day. Which is worse Tommy?

No Oct 7 no dead babies in Gaza. No human shields no dead babies in Gaza. No stealing food and medicines no dead babies in Gaza. You talk like Hamas have nothing to answer for.

Israel’s threat to withhold intelligence from the UK is surely a joke.

On those prior warnings,

Israel provided intelligence to thwart an Iranian terrorist attack plot in the UK enabling the UK police and security services to apprehend the suspects before they had time to execute their plan.

Their plan was to was to attack, wait for it,…. The Israeli embassy in London.

How pathetic the English nationalists are here and their fear of Islam. You and little Johnny

Maybe if you listened to the warnings you were issued with,  two Jet Airliners might have not been hijacked and hit the Twin Towers.

Australia’s move to recognise Palestine is also a reaction to years of calculated diplomatic sabotage by Trump — paving the road to the Hamas–Israel war.

  • Aid slashed

  • Two-state talks abandoned

  • Embassy moved to Jerusalem

  • Settlements given a blank cheque

  • So-called “Abraham Peace Accords” — brokered between countries never at war — bypassed Palestine entirely

Destabilise diplomacy. Empower hardliners. Sideline moderates.
Then act shocked when war follows.

October 7 wasn’t born in a vacuum — Trump built the room, stocked it with fuel, and left the door wide open.

Jonny comes up with another strawman.

I have frequently condemned the heinous terrorist attacked of October 7 as indisputably motivated by hatred and antisemitism.

I suggest you go bark at someone who disputes those facts.

Maybe if the US didn’t start an unjust war with Iraq, killing hundreds of thousands of innocent people, they wouldn’t have been attacked.

The US will get another 9/11 if they continue to support the terrorist Israeli government.

Putin has a warrant issued on him if he steps out of Russian soil for war crimes Chris also.  Trump or the Canadian PM could arrest him and hand in over to the War crime judges in the Hague.
