Eight-year-old twin brothers have died and another boy 11, was injured after their motorcycle crashed into the back of a parked lorry in Mueang Loei district on the evening of 12 August.

Police said the accident occurred at around 18:00 on the Loei–Tha Li Road, near Ban Pong Patiu in Kok Due subdistrict. Pol Lt Pimanee Charachit, an investigator at Mueang Loei Police Station, received the report and coordinated with the Dewa Rescue Unit to respond.

At the scene, officers found a blue Honda Wave motorcycle, registration from Loei, overturned in the middle of the road. The injured rider, an 11-year-old boy named Thiwakorn, was taken to Loei Hospital. Two passengers, twin brothers Thanadet and Thanaphat, both aged 8, were pronounced dead at the scene. All three were residents of Kok Due.

A short distance away, police found an Isuzu trailer truck, registration from Loei, parked at the roadside. The driver, 41-year-old Mr. Wittaya from Nong Bua Lamphu province, identified himself to police.

Initial investigations suggest the truck had been parked when the motorcycle, ridden by the 11-year-old and carrying the twins, struck a glancing blow to the rear of the trailer at speed, causing the bike and passengers, to thrown along the road.

The truck driver was taken in for questioning, and police have collected evidence from the scene. The case will proceed in accordance with legal procedures.

Parents just don't care   😡

correct, it'll never change

look at school car parks and underage kids driving to school, what chance have they got???

Maybe locals think that if the ages of everyone on the motosai is added together it equates to one person of that age.

8+8+11 is totally fine.

I am sure they are going through unimaginable grief.

Did you ever ride your bike on the road as a kid?

Sadly this will never end. The parents, if they're actually around, let their children drive scooters at 8 years old. No licenses, helmets, skills at driving around moving vehicles, insurance or care. Letting an 11 year old drive 2-8 year olds is almost as bad.

Schools, and the officials involved, allowing children to ride on the tops of buses to and from school also shows the lack of care here.

Daily road deaths of children because the police who see these infractions don't give a second glance, instead of pulling them over, waiting for the parents to arrive, then fining them for allowing under aged children to operate motorbikes, not wearing helmets, not having insurance and impounding the bikes. Making people pay money is how many learn a lesson. Again, there has to be a respect for life here to have this happen. They won't kill bugs but let their children drive around 2 ton autos at high speed on an unprotected motorbike. m

Push bike of course

My Granddaughter is 22. a university graduate and a frequent user of motorbike taxis. Today I bought her  crash helmet, but I am not certain that she will use it when I am not around.

On a different note, about 5 weeks ago, a middle-aged woman on a Scoopy ran into me from behind and knocked me offmy bicycle. I got away with a cut eyebrow and some skin offmy elbow. I was wearing a helmet. She was not and spent just over two weeks in hospital with head injuries

If the owner of the truck would be a farang then it would be he´s fault...

With heavy fines. Maybe it would destroy he´s economy.
