I am in OZ. I've done mail voting for years 

In OZ, voting is compulsory; if you don't vote, you get fined, so if you are handicapped and can't make it to the polling station, you deserve getting fined?

I'm not a fan of mail-in voting.    The state has no idea who filled out the ballot.

No time is "peculiar" when it comes to pointing out the endless stream of lies emanating from the orange clown's pie hole.

I agree other than for expats and military overseas, and individuals with disabilities I tend to agree. There are a few other catagories of individual I could see who would have a need to mail-in there votes, but blanket mail-in voting is simply too easy to rig.  And I think voting machines should be relegated to the trash-heap of history. 

However - what we refer to as a democracy in the West and the US is a sad joke.

Trump does not like mail in ballots because it’s too hard for him to cheat.

Others may be thinking about the "secret ballot aspect".

 

Then of course there is the " making voting difficult in certain areas" aspect - reducing the number of voting places for certain communities, forbidding water to those in long queues and so on. Mind you, just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to voter suppression in the world's leading democracy!

To whatever extent Trump is serious about trying to outlaw mail-in voting in the U.S., given his history, one can only presume that it's a blatantly partisan attempt to further sway the 2026 mid-term elections and beyond in favor of Republicans, along with similar efforts like the current gerrymandering redistricting effort Republicans are about to enact in Texas.

 

To the contrary, anyone who believes in and supports the U.S. as a democracy should be encouraging all legally entitled persons to vote, and mail-in voting with the current safeguards that check the legitimacy of mailed ballots furthers that goal.
