10 years would be a "norm" throughout the western world.

The family should sue him in the UK courts, get cash from him forever. Maybe he has a house.

He's only 22 so i doubt it, plus money isn't everything. no amount of cash brings her back for the family.

It doesn't take a genius what is attracting these sorts of men to Thailand. Over the past few years we've seen masses of them arrive in Thailand.

No idea what a "Northerner" is , obviously from the North of England?

Is that a "lower" class area of England?

Just like the South in the USA

Nope but when he's 40 and broke cuz he's paying 20% of his wages to them, maybe folks will think twice

Never crossed a land border here.......but I can't imagine it would be that difficult to cross with help.

He should never have been released.......unless this is what the Thai authorities hoped would happen.......one less problem to deal with.

30k for family?k for police

I think 10 years in a Thai Jail will make him think that.

The same bitter old men still spreading their hatred days later?

No one is going to have their wages garnished. What kind of idiot would suggest that? Oh... @Yagoda Figures...

Finally justice for this selfish tourist that visits Thailand and think they can do what ever they want.  And never show respect for the Thai people.

He may indeed be a "bad" f-rang but I think as expats we should be favoring fair treatment for all involved in such "international incident" tragedies. Obviously justice for the victim and her family but also reasonably fair and equal to Thais treatment in the justice system for the accused. It seems as if he's probably be going to be treated worse just for being a foreigner. No foreigner here should think that's a good thing.

So you’re saying the Expats should get special treatment and take no responsibility for their actions. Even after a women’s life was taken.  You should not be allowed to live in Thailand with those beliefs.

I never said anything of the kind.

Is he actually released on bail ?

If I were him I would get a fake passport and cross the border somewhere.  But I think he is not the smartest one.
