I just tried to send a letter to the US (friends SS proof of life) at the post office and they told me all mail is suspended to the US at the moment.

  • By Christmas we'll only be able to get a lump of coal in our stocking.

Has anyone contacted ACE (American Citizens Service) at the US Embassy in BKK about this? I mean the Embassy can at least get clarity as to how long  this will last.

I did and then sent me an email that simply stated try using DHL, FEDX or UPS to see if they can help.

Great answer, right??

Nothing seems to have changed at ACS. Little to no desires to help American from the American Citizen Services. Meanhwhile I wonder what the attendance was like at the "Study in the USA" education fair in Bangkok that the embassy was heavily promoting.

At least there is some comfort that they've met expectations. LOW ones. Nice work, guys. Don't overexert yourselves.

Is this mail stoppage getting any play in the US? I've seen some AP and Reuters stories, brief ones. But Twitter/X isn't saying much and neither are the news magazines/websites. There is in effect the isolating of the US from the international mailing system, and hardly anybody in the US seems to notice.

Yes. I did see on Youtube some local news stations reporting on this.  But it seems like a case of "not my problem" because i do not live overseas.

Dear Tim,

With the current mailing limitations of Thailand Post, you are able to instead mail the completed and signed SSA-7162 form directly to the Social Security Administration office in Manila, Philippines at the address below.

Social Security Administration
U.S. Embassy – Manila
Attention: FEQ
1201 Roxas Boulevard, Ermita
Manila, Philippines 0930

We advise using a trackable courier service (FedEx, DHL, UPS, etc,) so you can check the status of the package instantaneously.  Please be advised that the Social Security Administration office does not accept electronic or faxed forms.

Please note that this is a temporary procedure only during Thailand Post mailing disruptions.  Forms should be mailed to the standard mailing address / PO box once the mailing system resumes service.

Indeed, it sounds good. I hope Manila has agreed to this.

Maybe.

It's for official government correspondence and documents for official use.

We lowly peasants can send ballots, perhaps also SocSec forms.

Would have to contact embassy to confirm.

I doubt they would do it but it does not hurt to file a complaint. Shouting at the rain maybe but every little bit of resistance helps.

Wouldn't be the first time, nor the last, that a Thai news report got the details wrong vs. what's the reality of the situation on the ground.

AND BTW, it's pretty clear from multiple and different member reports above that at least what's being enforced on the ground here is a total Thai Post ban on mail to the U.S., and no exceptions for letter mail.

I'm confused.

If you're going to pay for a courier service anyway (as that suggests that you should to Manila) why wouldn't you just courier it to Wilkes-Barre to the SSA street address (not PO box) that has been posted here?!?

I just finished a call to Manila SSA. It's true. Send your SSA-7162 form to this address:

Social Security Administration
U.S. Embassy – Manila
Attention: FEQ 2025
1201 Roxas Boulevard, Ermita
Manila, Philippines 0930

(If 0930 postal code is rejected,  then use 1000 instead)

Instead of almost $50 to courier to the US, it should now cost about 200 baht to post to Manila.

Please Americans; stop being blindly partisan... think for YOURSELF on every issue to its conclusion. We've all been politically indoctrinated one way or the other by parties who want one thing only: POWER. We're Americans. We are free. Critical thinking and calm discussion is our only way to solve the problems that have built up for decades. Please, please, UNITE.

Thank you very much for that!

So the 200 baht would be for Thai Post EMS?

I don't understand the comment about postal code rejection?

Do you mean the Thai Post clerk might not accept that?

Sunday the 24th Phra Khanong post office. Tried to mail a letter..via Thai Post. No can do.

This letter needed to be in the States in a couple of weeks. Sent to my friends address in California.

I had to send courier...The clerk said DHL.

 Over 1,500 bt.

Had to send with them. Got a tracking #. The letter arrived and was processed through Suvanaphum. 4 days later and it is still in transit..or is it?  I was told 4 business days.   I will be surprised if it ever makes it.....what a B..ch

Even before POTUS 45 and 47 I noticed ACS was about the same.

Who has posted evidence of that being the case?  Specifically, of course.

Specifically the Post at Central festival CM refused to post both letters and postcards on August 22 - a week ago. They were handing out forms from the Thai post which states " it is necessary to suspend all international mail services to the United States of America from 22 August 2025, onward until further notice"

Nothing in that letter mentions letters or parcels - specifically it states "ALL INTERNATIONAL MAIL SERVICES"

Unfortunately even letters are not currently being accepted.  I have tried 3 times in the last three days at three different post offices and they can not accept them at the moment. I pointed out it was just a letter with nothing else but still no.

The only way you can currently send anything is by their courier service which costs a few thousand baht. I did not wait to have the detail about that explained to me since no way would I pay that much.

It really is a cluster f**k at the moment and there does not appear to be a quick fix in sight.

Interesting article in reuters about it.

Courier Post, flat/letter, to the U.S.   1,530 THB

This is the only service that shows when you calculate price. https://www.thailandpost.co.th/index.php?page=rate_result_nrs3

The government will us AI to determine if you are even entititled to that. I wouldn't get any hopes up.

I think we all know now that the global river of commerce has just been damned. Upstream is a big lake and downstream there will just be a few stagnant puddles.

Trump has thrown a stone into the water. The ripple effect won't be long in coming. Many small businesses will go out of business both those exporting to the US and smaller American companies who import from overseas for resale.
