Cool Guns I have Known and Loved

Featured Replies

Im not talking about the ordinary run of the mill Remington 870 or Ruger 10-22, but what cool gun have you known and loved? Ever see Princips Browning? Did you know they have the St. Valentines Day Thompsons at some Sheriffs Department in Wisconsin?

I used to own several of these and am thinking of getting one again.

Noooooooooo. P38s were original crunchentickers.

At first I didn't want it, because it was Czech, I thought it was cheap and unremarkable. But it's a good gun, my father was right.

CZ owns Colt now. Im old enough to remember the stir caused by the 75. It was always a bit too big for me in trigger reach. IM sure the above is an efficient too, but its not very cool.

This is cool from CZ. I used to keep one in my tackle box, CZ 82 9x18mak

The CZ Shadow 2 is cool if you do IPSC competition. A good entry gun. Very reliable and accurate.

What is that, the CZ 82?

My first and still favorite gun to shoot is a Ruger Mark 1 Target model with the heavy 6-7/8" barrel.   I paid $140 for it (new) back in college and back then, I could shoot it all afternoon for about $5 worth of 22LR.  Nice, because I was a poor student...

I still love taking it out and running a few boxes through it when I'm in Texas.  It's a lot more accurate than I am.

I used to have a High Standard Supermatic

From ones I've owned ...

Ruger Mini 14 would be my go to.

AK 47, for urban close encounters.

S&W 357 mag for stopping power

S&W 38 snub, I was most accurate with, strange since snub vs 6" 357.

FN49 & Mauser 8mm for pure kick when shooting

Mossberg 12 gauge (18' barrel), cheap but practical

Glock 19, comfy to carry, but crap stopping power

The rest were unique collector items, or crap.  Always wanted a Desert Eagle 357 auto, but never got around to buying one.  Oh well :coffee1:

Yeah sure, hope you find it excruciatingly annoying.

Great guns, but they've gotten very spendy.  To the point where I'd probably replace it with something cheaper if I lost it.

Same with my Mini 14.  No way I'd buy another, as fun as it is to shoot.  Too many less expensive AR15 copies available.  (Edit:  And the Mini 14 barrel is so thin it seems to lose accuracy after a few dozen rounds heat it up.)

Isn't it odd that a guy called Ruger founds a company that's based on the Luger?

You can't make it up.

The Link Between Mental Illness and Firearm Violence: Implications for Social Policy and Clinical Practice

The United States has substantially higher levels of firearm violence than most other developed countries. Firearm violence is a significant and preventable public health crisis. This referenced article summarizes existing evidence about the interplay among mental illness, violence, and firearms, with particular attention paid to the role of active symptoms, addiction, victimization, and psychosocial risk factors.

So stay out of the topic. The demographic posting here has probably the lowest rate of gun crime anywhere.

True, but most of our wives can handle a Glock 19's profile and 9mm ammo.  Realistically, if its for personal carry and stopping power, you're better off with some version of .357. My wife, at this point in her life, can't handle the recoil of a .357.  I can, but here in the LOS - I can't carry, plus you're gonna pay 3 to 5 times the price for the identical gun that you can easily find in the US.  Given the sales restrictions and quota systems on gun sellers in the LOS, you may not even be able to obtain the firearm you're looking for.

Gotta admin - range time and access to a wide selection of sanely priced firearms is one thing that I really miss about not living in the USA.

Why is that topic still open? Why not a topic on Murder?

6. CONCLUSION

Guns are ubiquitous, easy to access, and intrinsically linked to both US culture and the risk of suicide, violence, and injury. However, they are not, by and large, a mental health problem.

Exactly. It's what I started with, my wife started with, my son start with. It's what a whole bunch of novice hand gun owners start with.
Then you get defense training and range time under your belt, and you move on.
