Cool Guns I have Known and Loved

The suppressors  (Silencers) are easy on the ears when shooting intruders.

So you have used them on multiple occasions to shoot intruders?

Did you shoot them in the head or the foot?

Have you ever considered moving to a safer neighborhood? Or maybe you enjoy the sport of shooting intruders?

  • So we've just had the Minnesota massacre on another thread, and you have started a thread on cool guns.

  • My first and still favorite gun to shoot is a Ruger Mark 1 Target model with the heavy 6-7/8" barrel.   I paid $140 for it (new) back in college and back then, I could shoot it all afternoon for about

They are necessary for people to get around.

Although I think high CC motorcycles should be banned.

Glock 19 (9mm) and Ruger Mk IV 22/45 (22. Cal). Approved of, and encouraged by, the Sheriff of Santa Rosa County Florida.

You must have had them a long time, the sheriff doesn't have jack to say about it anymore, not in quite a few years

I just saw a Thai guy with what was probably a pellet gun trying to shoot down a bird.

I guess he was gonna cook it ... or maybe just for sport.

I guess there are no strict laws on that?

The usual parade of excuses and rationalizations for the only valid reason for owning guns - you like them, or even love them.

But it's "culture" engrained in the constitution ...

So how and why exactly did it get in there? We'll never know what the intent was ... why other countries don't have it ...

I didn't mean it as regulatory approval. I meant the Sheriff approved of shooting intruders.

Our Sheriff (or maybe it was the previous one) made videos encouraging residents to shoot anyone caught breaking into their homes.

I once owned an Heckler and Koch HK4. I bought it from a German police officer. It came with four barrels that you could change very easily. The Heckler & Koch HK4 came with four interchangeable barrels: .22 Long Rifle, .25 ACP (6.35mm Browning), .32 ACP (7.65mm Browning), and .380 ACP (9mm Kurz). This design allowed users to easily switch between different calibers.

Unfortunately, when I was divorced, my wife hid it from me and that was the last I saw of it. I had to report it to the police as stolen because it was registered to me. Oh well.

I was always suitably impressed by the fact that.....

a. You pull the trigger, and the rifle goes BANG....

b. Then, you wait a fraction of a second.....

c.  And, if you listen closely, you can hear the projectile hit the target, a moment later.

d.  There are MANY Foot-pounds delivered when that projectile meets its target.....if you are shooting a heavy 0.50 caliber muzzle loader.  Don't let it fool you....

e.  One would hardly take a muzzle loader to hold up a bank, however.

I would hate to be shot by one. An extremity hit means amputation. A huge amount of lead. Look what the Brits conquered the world with...big fat lumps of lead.

I was always in the heavy bullet/moderate load crowd. I used to pack, for example. a 18 inch barrel .338 Win Mag carbine for bear defense with 270 grainers. I used to hunt with 156 Normas in the 6.5x55, hit a moose with that dead center in the chest and pull the spent bullet from its ass.

You can see the Mauser origin.

I always loaded my own.....

I had quite a setup.....

The ROCK CHUCKER SUPREME PRESS  was truly amazing, back in the 1970s.....

I had all the gear to produce very high quality ammunition for my guns......

.357 magnum

.44 revolver

and much more......

I was not so much interested in shooting as I was in the physics of it all......and the propellants, etc.....

BUT....

The only rifle I really enjoyed was the BLACK POWDER rifle....that was PLENTY OF FUN.....

You could even shoot it off in the neighborhood on the 4th of July....

Just by not loading any bullets, but only wads.....

And then firing it off with a BIG BANG....

Speaking of the 4th of July....

It suddenly comes to mind....

The film....

Note:  My favorite cartridge for the average rifle must be the .308 Winchester MAGNUM......

You mean 300 Win Mag or 308 Norma Mag.

As soon as I typed the comment, I realized....

It was an FN Mauser action. 1960s style. FN took the actions, panatagraphed out the adjustable stocks, heavy barrel with a flash hider off a MAG58 machine gun and presto,

Great actions when you find them. I think a pre 64 70 action is the ultimate in terms of building a custom rifle.

One thing I NEVER re-loaded was the Weatherby 460 Magnum.

Not sure why.

I forget why.

Very expensive to buy the Weatherby 460 Magnum ammunition.

Must have been a reason why I did not re-load....

Who knows....

Too long ago....to recall....

Im not talking about the ordinary run of the mill Remington 870 or Ruger 10-22, but what cool gun have you known and loved? Ever see Princips Browning? Did you know they have the St. Valentines Day Thompsons at some Sheriffs Department in Wisconsin?

I used to own several of these and am thinking of getting one again.
