RFK Jr Announces All Doctors Must Learn Proper Nutrition

Is beef tallow not heathier than seed oil?

Beef fat is 50% saturated fat, which elevates LDL in the blood, the so-called bad cholesterol. It's what causes artery plaque.

Vegetable oils such as canola, sunflower and olive oil are unsaturated. They are generally considered to be heart-healthy.

The exceptions are coconut oil and palm oil, both used extensively in Asian cooking. Both contain saturated esters.

RFK jr claims seed oils are responsible for obesity. Wrong. Obesity is caused by carbohydrate and sugar intake.

He also claims beef fat is healthier than seed oils. He's a <deleted> idiot.

Bold reform in the medical education system.

A situation that everyone has recognized as wrong, but no one has had the gumption to fix.

Trump and RFK Jr have gumption!

This dope doesn't have the right to dictate what medical schools should teach. Did you see him drinking methyl blue and popping nicotine pouches while he was before Congress.  I'll bet he's also roided up and certainly takes testosterone supplements.  Not to mention the fact that he's mentally ill.

Like Nick Supreme, I too would support this initiative if it were pushed by the Biden Administration. That's because it would be fact-based and not the kind of nonsense pushed by Jr.

There is plenty of information online in this day and age, so I don't need to rely on my doctor for any nutritional advice anyway. In the end, it makes little difference actually because of the internet. Maybe 30 years ago, it would have been a bigger deal since there would be nowhere else to get information.

But there is a lot of contradictory information anyway. So there does not appear to be consensus in the medical community on everything. Scientific studies are sometimes not reliable ... it's not perfect. So no one person can dictate everything ... I wonder how the schools will manage with this. Seems like a complicated task.

However, the information out there is often very confusing and contradictory anyway.

Still confused about a lot of nutrition stuff. Good luck to doctors and their new curriculums. I could never make it through medical school.

That's why there are nutritionists and dieticians. Most doctors know the basics of nutritional anyway and they don't have time to be analyzing their patients eating habits.

Herd immunity  pfff  what "anti-vax" nonsense

you can only get herd immunity from the vax...ohhh hold on ...😋

You're quite right. Herd immunity can be acquired through infection by a virus or bacteria. Which is why smallpox, polio, whooping cough and other vaccinations are so pointless except for the minor fact that the unvaccinated are more likely to die or become seriously ill if that is the route that's taken to achieve protection.

Pretty much everything you posted here is untrue. Corn oil and soybean oil have average flashpoints for vegetable oil. (AS for smokepoints. for both of them its's  450 degrees farenheit which is quite high.)  As for saturated fat levels, I remember when corn oil margarine was introduced to the US market and the claim was that it was beneficial because it was high in polyunsaturates and low in saturated fat. In fact, corn oil has about 15 percent saturated fats and soybean oil about 13%. For comparison's sake, olive oil has about 14%.

Seed oils undergo heavy industrial processing ... the more processed, the worse a food is, generally speaking.

And seed oils are high in Omega 6, which contributes to inflammation and metabolic issues.

Regarding the saturated fat part, maybe it's more nuanced and I'm still confused about that. Maybe too much saturated fat does cause issues for some people ... not sure.

Yeah, good point.

The entire role of the doctor would need to change then if they had to sit around explaining nutrition to people.

Not sure where RFK is heading with this.

Like I said, because of the internet I'm good to go. I have more information than I know what to do with.

I might be going back to 2 meals.

3 is convenient in some ways, but I just can't get to my desired body weight with 3.

But some people don't gain weight as easily, and for them 3 might be better.

Because it's better to spread out the protein during the day.

But for me, it doesn't seem to be working.

Listen to your own body and watch the waistline.

There is no one size fits all for everyone. You need to experiment and see what works for you.

But one meal, no way.

I weigh myself every morning.

This month my highest weight was 113.0 kg and the lowest was 110.9 kg. This morning I was 111.0 kg and the monthly average was 112kg.

The monthly average this year was

January 115.0

February 113.8

March 114.2

April 114.8

May 115.0

June 111.9

July 110.6

I eat pretty much the same most days and some days I gain weight and other days I lose weight. I can go back to 2016 when I was 126kg and forward to 2024 when I was down to 108.2 kg.

At 81 I don't worry about my weight over much though I would like it to drop to below 100kg.

I can't remember how many decades ago that was.

It depends on the type of processing.

Most is intended to ensure the product is as pure as possible, removing compounds which affect taste, appearance, and shelf life.

Bottled water is heavily processed too. No one gets their panties in a wad about that.

Your weight is not as important as your Body Mass Index. Over 25 is overweight, over 30 is obese. Here's the online calculator.

https://www.calculator.net/bmi-calculator.html

10 years ago, I weighed 100 kg. That was obese. I am now normal BMI  at 77 kg.

PM me if you want to know how to lose weight. It's a matter of eating the right foods.

Need to delve into the science.

But RFK yaps too much. He needs to keep his thoughts about what constitutes a healthy diet to himself because he is alienating people by being too open about it. He is supposed to make policies, but he is not a nutritionist.

Regarding fats, I realize that I may be wrong now. And I may have been too narrow-minded.

I just came across this video. He claims some people tolerate saturated fats very well and eat high amounts of saturated fats without any problems, but some people have genetic variants that cause their ApoB levels to reach dangerous levels if their saturated fat intake gets too high.

First time I come across this type of information. I really thought saturated fats were fine for everyone. But I guess we all need to monitor our saturated fat intake and monitor our ApoB levels -- not just LDL and triglycerides.

Nutrition is rather complex.

What about:  All doctors must learn to not take bribes from Big Drug companies, and refuse junkets to Resorts, paid for by pharmaceutical companies.

What about:  All doctors must learn about the proven effects of vastly over-prescribing psychotropic drugs to children, as well as adults.

What about: All doctors must learn to accept that the practice of medicine should not be a monopoly for a few, and that more doctors are needed in the economy so that adequate time is available during patient consultations.

What about:  Drug companies must charge no more for drugs than does the medical system on Taiwan.

And then, let the patient eat what he likes.

Maybe the diet should be adjusted back to what they were eating on Taiwan, pre-1985, when all Formosans were slim and trim, happy and healthy.

Yeah, right. And everybody must learn that your purpose in life isn't to become as rich as possible but foster the well being of your fellow human beings. Ha ha ha! Goof one!

It's not necessary to weigh yourself every day, as your weight will fluctuate for a few reasons. Holding water, especially if you eat more carbs at some times, has your body storing glycogen in your liver and muscles. Stool present also has weight change. Just check your weight every week , in the morning, after you use the bathroom and before eating. You also can't go by height and weight scales as some people, especially weight trainers but some in general also, have more muscle, which weighs more. A body fat analysis is the only way to know your true BMI. Checking monthly like you have is okay also.

If you want to lose weight, some basic things can help, like not eating too close to bedtime. Eating 4-5 small meals instead of 2-3 larger ones, which has your body not storing calories as much. Not drinking calories, like beer, alcohol, juice, milk. No snacks besides popcorn you cook yourself (not microwave), fat free pretzels, fruit, rice cakes.  Lowering your total carbs helps, as the more you eat, the more chance of storing calories instead of burning stored body fat. Also limiting your total fat, especially the saturated kind, and fried foods.

Any increase of movement helps, even a  daily walk. You made it to 81, which is already good, so your eating and other habits, plus genetics, has already helped you. The best advice I can give anyone is to follow the Blue Zone diet as closely as you can, as those who do are the ones who live longer on average worldwide.

I've got to give you this: No matter how low you sink, you find a way to sink even lower.

No, why? He is a cardiologist. I get enough sun exposure for my D levels btw.
