Verifying phone number ownership for bank letter

Featured Replies

I posted on another thread, now closed, that I would be updating my passport information on my DTAC and AIS numbers at their offices.

DTAC: the agent knew exactly what I wanted to do but told me I would need to download and install the TRUE app while she tapped away putting my phone number and passport information in her tablet. When I opened the app and created a log in, it was all working with my bio data, current packages and correct balance (pre-paid). Under the account menu, there's a "Service Certificate Letter" button that will create and display a letter on True letterhead that shows your name, passport number and the phone number and says it's current. You can display it live or save it as a screengrab.

AIS: the agent was absolutely clueless as to what I wanted and tried telling me I needed to top up, then offering packages before another agent took the time to listen to "I want to update my ID" and set him right. Then we faffed about taking pictures of my new passport, and several unsuccessful attempts at a blinking selfie until I suggested the bright overhead lights were probably the issue. Sure enough, one attempt with less harsh lighting and a plain background solved that problem. A few minutes later he says it's all done, thanks. I left the shop but when I tried to login to my AIS app, I got a error message that account ownership had changed and try another account or set up a new one!

I went home and did the latter, setting myself up as new on their app, taking my own passport picture and a new blinking selfie. Voila! There's my account, status, package and balance information, just the avatar picture I had added years ago was no longer there. It doesn't have any function that displays name, ID and phone number like True has. The only time I saw name, passport and phone number together is on a screen after doing the owner update. It's not saved anywhere that can be pulled up like True's certificate request. Maybe doing a screen grab of that last confirmation of successfully updated ownership is the best AIS can do?

Good luck.

It's impossible to predict what is acceptable to whom in Thailand's bureaucracy, banking sector, etc at any given time.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Tap the 3 dots top right corner of True app home page to open the main menu. The 'Service Certificate Letter' is the last item under 'Services'.
