A 59-year-old man was fatally gored by his own buffalo while taking the animal to a public pond in Buriram province, leaving relatives in shock and prompting them to sell the buffalo over safety concerns.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Weerawut Ratprakorn, deputy investigating officer at Nong Sai Police Station, reported that officers were called on 30 August to a public pond (Samleng Pond), Ban Khok Proa Hom, Moo 13, Nong Sai Subdistrict, Nang Rong District, after receiving word of a fatal buffalo attack. The highway rescue unit and the on-duty doctor from Nang Rong Hospital also attended the scene.

Authorities found the victim, Mr. Wasan Komkamin, lying on his back by the pond with severe head injuries and his chest ripped open, with internal organs exposed. The five-year-old male buffalo responsible was later secured in a pen by relatives, who feared it might attack others.

Witnesses, villagers Bao and Por, said they discovered the man’s body while pumping water nearby. They did not witness the attack itself but immediately alerted the family and authorities.

Relatives noted that the buffalo had been raised by the victim since it was young and had never shown aggressive behaviour before. The victim and his siblings regularly took their buffalo to the pond for drinking and bathing and no prior incidents had occurred.

Following the incident, the family decided to sell the buffalo, though initial offers have been low due to its age. Relatives expressed concern for the safety of others if the animal were kept.

Authorities did not raise any questions regarding the cause of death, as the buffalo was owned by the victim. The body was released to the family for funeral rites.
