What Router?

Featured Replies

I've had True home wifi for a few years but recently around 8-9 pm the speed declines so my IPTV programmes buffer or freeze.

I've just changed to AIS but sometimes I still have the same problem.

AIS have obviously installed a new router, the download speed I pay for is 1 GB, would buying a new router increase my speed?

The router AIS supplied is Huawei cyberstar HG8045x6-12-ais

If so what router or what spec should I be looking for please?

If you think you will get a 1GB download all the time you are dreaming. That figure is the maximum rate possible for your router.

  • Nothing to do with internet, get a decent iptv service.

  • Translation, I'm such an ignorant that I don't know that with a GPON modem/router as AIS and 3BB provide, there is no option to change router, because your internet connection is tied to the router MA

So a current download speed of 19.2 Mbps is nothing to do with internet but a poor IPTV service ?

I got the same issue with AIS before. I called and they came home, and fixed the speed. They had to call main office, and suddenly I had over the 2Gbps that is the line I have. Before they fixed it, it was locked on 600-700Mbps. You might have the same problem but looks like much lower.

AIS also allows the end user to change upload/download speeds, three presets...

That test was on my laptop this afternoon, not my Ugoos AM8 box

Have you tried streaming on your lap top?

Yes but not when there was a problem,I was preparing for that. However as it's not an android device I had to get my ISP provider to talk me through the set up with something called IBO player. When it buffered during the Man City game, first I switched to another android box then tried my laptop but when I opened IBO it said trial ended and I didn't want to bother the IPTV provider at night.

It doesn't usually buffer during footy maybe as most games are quite late.

Thanks for all the replies, useful, not useful and ones I didn't understand.

I've drawn the conclusion that changing a router is not easy and may not solve the issue so I will leave this thread, maybe the info will be useful to another person in the future.

Any major buffering problems and I will contact AIS.

I don't wish to get involved in whatever you are up to with the other poster - Just, if you are interested, initially we thought the connection was tied to a Mac address, but it seems not, others have been able to buy a ONT from shopee and drop it into a system - there is a pdf guide here on the site. I get 3bb to supply an ONT and then I use my own router, other members have purchased the Huawei ONT and used their routers after.

There is a Thai fb group, something to do with 3BB in the title and there are posts that demonstrate setups successfully managed to directly connect the fibre connection to their routers, I think they use some kind of SFP ONT stick. There might be some dialogue with the ISP, but I find 3bb to be really helpful, there is a guy at my regional depot who is willing to help me, he speaks English well.

But agreed, the ISP supplied router is perfectly fine for the OP. Replacing it won't change a thing.

Hi

changing the router will fix nothing in this situation.

try a vpn to hong kong and see if your tv works ok, it should be fine.

if the issue with tv is only during the bigger epl games then it is certainly traffic shaping but the vpn to hk should solve it.

if you need ahand pm me as I live local

What are you streaming? Are you paying for a contracted service? Yes, mainly UK tv programmes and especially EPL.

Maybe the closure of this site impacted everyone else vying for limited bandwidth.

World's largest sports piracy site shut down by police

The world's biggest destination for illegal streams of live sports events has been shut down, according to a leading anti-piracy group.

The Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) said on Wednesday it had teamed up with police in Egypt to close down Streameast, which had been visited more than 1.6 billion times in the past year.

It allowed millions to access pirated streams of sports such as Premier League football matches, Formula One races and Major League Baseball games.
