A worker was left in critical condition after receiving an electric shock while attempting to remove a large advertising banner from a building during rainfall in Chonburi city.

The incident occurred at a four-way traffic junction in Ban Suan Subdistrict. CCTV footage shows the worker, identified only as Mr Ek, climbing a ladder to reach a banner mounted on a commercial building approximately 10 metres off the ground, outside a pharmacy. Rain was falling and sparks were seen as the worker touched a metal frame, which was touching the electrical wires and he fell to the ground below, prompting nearby residents to rush over in alarm.

Emergency services, including Chonburi City Police and Tri Khun Tham Rescue, arrived at the scene. They found Mr Ek lying on the ground with burn marks on his legs, arms, torso, chest and back. He was given first aid before being urgently transported to Chonburi Hospital. High-voltage wiring at the top of the building showed visible burn marks and the ladder used by the worker remained in place.

A colleague, Mr Wichien, 57, stated that Mr Ek had been tasked with removing the old banner to install a new one. He reportedly noticed a live electrical current running through the metal frame, but continued the work.

Police have documented the scene and plan to interview Mr Ek once he is stable to determine the precise cause of the incident.
