Mother & Child Drown After Motorcycle Swept Off Overflow

An incident claimed the lives of a mother and her two-year-old child in Bueng Kan Province on the evening of 3 September.

At approximately 18:40, rescue teams from Sawang Sriwilai received a report of a missing person near the dam overflow at Ban Nasawan, Nasawan Subdistrict, Mueang District. Initial enquiries at the scene revealed that a two-year-old child was missing along with the their mother, who were travelling on a motorcycle.

Rescue personnel, including divers from Sawang Sriwilai, conducted a search along the watercourse for about an hour. The mother was later found, floating on the water. Authorities believe that the mother and child were attempting to cross the dam overflow when their motorcycle was swept or crashed into the deep water.

The child’s body was recovered from underwater by rescue volunteers and both victims were handed over to medical authorities for post-mortem examinations.

Local authorities are urging motorcyclists to exercise extreme caution when crossing overflow dams, particularly during periods of high water.
