Phuket International Airport has staged a large-scale emergency security drill aimed at strengthening safety preparedness and coordination among agencies operating at the airport.

The exercise, held at 09;00 on 5 September and was officially opened by Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat, who presided over the event. The drill formed part of the Airport Emergency Plan (AEP) and the Airport Contingency Plan (ACP) for the 2025 fiscal year, focusing on procedures for handling suspicious items or prohibited objects within the airport area.

Airport Director Montchai Tanoonod outlined the objectives of the drill, explaining that it was designed to ensure all relevant agencies understand their roles and responsibilities in accordance with standards set by the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) and the National Civil Aviation Security Programme. The exercise, he added, also helps boost passenger confidence in the airport’s safety measures.

The event was attended by senior officials including Phuket Provincial Police Commander Pol Maj Gen Sinlert Sukhum, Thalang District Chief Siwatch Ruwankul, and Petai Chantima, Assistant Executive Vice President for Airport and Aviation Standards. Also present were senior Phuket airport executives, airline representatives, business operators, security agencies, and local rescue and emergency response teams.

The full-scale drill took place at the airport’s VIP car park and simulated the discovery of a suspicious object, requiring a coordinated response from all involved units.

Officials emphasised that such exercises are essential in maintaining high levels of security and operational readiness at Phuket International Airport.
