Police investigating the gruesome murder of an unidentified woman whose body was found stuffed inside a suitcase weighed down with dumbbells are focusing their inquiries on a suspected Chinese gang.

The victim, believed to be aged between 30 and 40, was discovered on 3 September in a reservoir in Huai Yai, Bang Lamung district, Chonburi province. Her body had been placed in a large suitcase, with weight plates used to submerge it. Forensic experts estimate she had been dead for at least five days.

The investigation has since uncovered evidence linking the killing to a rented SUV. The vehicle, a grey Toyota, was tracked after it was seen at a shopping centre in Bang Lamung where weights matching those used in the crime were purchased.

Police and forensic teams examined the vehicle on 6 September at Huai Yai Police Station. Investigators noted damage to the car’s body, scrapes consistent with contact with rocks and soil residue beneath the chassis. Latent fingerprints were collected and DNA samples were taken from seven employees at the Pattaya-based car rental firm.

The rental company owner told police that the SUV had been leased on 10 August by a Chinese man, who arranged for the car to be handed over at Suvarnabhumi Airport. Two Chinese men collected the vehicle that day. The renter, reportedly a repeat customer, signed a month-long agreement set to expire on 10 September.

However, the car was returned unexpectedly early on 30 August by one Chinese man accompanied by two Thai women. Staff noticed the vehicle had been thoroughly cleaned inside and out, but also spotted cracks and damage to the front body work. When questioned, the renters paid 2,000 baht in compensation before leaving.

Forensic evidence and rental records now form the backbone of the police case. While officers have not disclosed full details of the suspects, they believe the perpetrators are members of a Chinese criminal group.

The motive for the killing and concealment remains unclear, with investigators still working to establish whether it stemmed from organised crime, financial disputes or personal conflict.

The victim’s identity has not yet been confirmed and police continue to gather leads in what they describe as a complex and sensitive investigation.

I guess they'll be checking all the CCTV, should get images soon

The body was found in a reservoir by Huay Yai so I wonder how much surveillance there is out there. They seem to have made a lot of progress nevertheless....

This is the water supply for Ban Chang, also training ground for the military rowing teams, it is a big complex, the border between Chonburi and Rayong is split down the middle of this reservoir, the main entrance on the Rayong side has security and cameras everywhere, but the small farm tracks at the Chonburi side probably not so much.

How did they link to the car initially presuming the starting point was the lake....or was it just a break coming from sweeping shops selling weights. All sounds like good police work.

If they have names, best to check airport departures records.

The staff at the shop where the weights were bought informed about the car as they had helped to carry the weights to the car.

Well if the Chinese used their real ID to rent the car, thats pretty much it for these guys, even if they are already back in China or where ever..Its just a matter of time...

Sickening end to someone’s life.  RIP young lady no matter what the circumstances were  that got you there.
