A pick-up truck became stuck on a pedestrian bridge in front of Wat Ban Khom temple, Samut Sakhon, after its driver mistakenly followed GPS directions, causing an unusual traffic incident that drew the attention of locals.

According to Mr. Watcharakiat Seenualchan, village head of Moo 5, Khok Kham, Mueang District, residents alerted him to the incident after seeing the truck attempt to cross the bridge, which was designed only for pedestrians and motorcycles, not cars.

Witnesses said the vehicle, carrying a family of three, managed to drive up and over most of the bridge before becoming lodged at the steep exit ramp. Unable to turn left or right, the driver sought help from several nearby migrant workers, who assisted by rocking the vehicle while the driver slowly reversed it back to safety.

The mishap, which caused considerable difficulty in manoeuvring, was blamed on the driver’s reliance on GPS navigation.

Mr. Seenualchan noted that this was not the first time such an incident had occurred. A similar case was reported previously, leading to calls for barriers to be installed at both ends of the bridge. However, he rejected the idea, explaining that the bridge’s steep incline could pose a danger if motorcyclists attempted to descend at speed.
