Hua Hin, a picturesque resort town in Thailand, has been honoured with the prestigious Clean Air for Small Cities award at the ASEAN level. This recognition places Hua Hin in esteemed company alongside other Thai cities, such as Nakhon Si Thammarat and Pak Kret, both of which have also received top environmental awards.

At the 18th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Environment held in Langkawi, Malaysia, the Deputy Mayor of Prachuap Khiri Khan, Atichat Chaisri, accepted the Certificate of Recognition on behalf of Hua Hin. This accolade was officially bestowed upon Hua Hin Mayor, Nopporn Wutthikul, who expressed immense pride in the city’s accomplishments.

“This award reflects the collective effort of our residents, and I’m deeply grateful to all those who have contributed to making Hua Hin a model city for sustainable living,” said Mayor Nopporn, highlighting the community’s dedication to maintaining a clean and healthy environment.

The award not only affirms Hua Hin’s commitment to superior environmental management but also reinforces its appeal to both Thai and international visitors as a premier tourist destination. Known for its relaxed atmosphere and pristine beaches, this recognition is expected to boost Hua Hin’s competitiveness globally, highlighting its high quality of life.

Hua Hin was not the only Thai city to be lauded at this year’s awards. Thung Song, located in Nakhon Si Thammarat province, was celebrated for its urban biodiversity and expanded green spaces. With 175.24 square metres of green space per person, Thung Song exceeds the United Nations’ recommended standards, setting a remarkable example in environmental management.

Meanwhile, Pak Kret in Nonthaburi showcased exemplary comprehensive urban management. The city's achievements span across aspects of clean water, wastewater, waste, air, and energy management. Pak Kret has also excelled in sustainable practices, increasing urban green spaces, enhancing biodiversity, and monitoring greenhouse gas emissions to drive forward sustainable development.

The awards underline Thailand’s diverse approaches to urban environmental challenges, showcasing commitments to sustainability at multiple levels. With such acknowledgements, these cities set benchmarks for others in the region to follow.

For Hua Hin, the award is not just a testament to its past achievements but also a catalyst for future initiatives. It reinforces the city’s role as a pioneer for clean air solutions and sustainable urban living. By maintaining its natural beauty and improving environmental practices, Hua Hin is poised to thrive as a leading example of eco-friendly tourism.

In conclusion, this recognition at the ASEAN level is a significant step for Hua Hin. It validates the hard work and dedication of local leaders and residents, and emboldens the city’s journey toward a sustainable and thriving future. As visitors flock to enjoy its serene beaches and clean air, Hua Hin continues to stand out as a beacon of environmental hope in the region.
