A pick-up truck carrying fireworks caught fire in the middle of the night, causing a devastating explosion. In Ratchaburi, Thailand, more than ten cars were damaged, and many homes were destroyed. Two people were hurt and transported to a nearby hospital.

On 10th September, Police Lieutenant Jareonya Puriso received reports of a vehicle explosion with fire near Khao Ngu intersection, Phetchakasem Road. The Mitsubishi Triton pick-up truck, registration number BTH-394 Chai Nat, was found engulfed in flames. Firefighters took more than ten minutes to extinguish the blaze, with debris scattered across the road.

Alongside the personal vehicles damaged, windows and doors of nearby homes were shattered. Among the affected was Sudakara Rattanakorn, 60, who reported significant damage to her house, including a collapsed ceiling and ruined household items. During the incident, she heard a loud noise akin to a transformer blowing, prompting her to discover her home's devastation.

Initial investigations revealed the truck carried a sealed container filled with an old stock of fireworks. The driver had not removed the fireworks and drove with multiple goods intended for delivery. It is believed the friction could have sparked a fire leading to the massive explosion. Authorities continue to investigate to determine the exact cause.

Key Takeaways

  • A fireworks-laden truck explosion damaged over ten cars and several homes.

I've heard farangs refer to Bangkok as 'Bangers' but now Ratchaburi is in competition. Thank goodness the vehicle was not displaying a hazardous cargo sign or it would have been damaged,😋
