Featured Replies

Thaksin was first elected government to finish full term in history.
First to be re elected (landslide victory)

Elected successive times but overthrown (illegal coups)

The man is the victim of political persecution

Thaksin's gov't put the 30-baht scheme into practice in 2002 and it has been functioning ever since.

I'm not questioning your background information, but Thaksin does deserve credit for implementing what has become a successful public healthcare scheme.

You are correct Implemented    NOT his idea      the credit should go to his government       Thaskin does not give a shxt about the people only himself

That's true about the 30-baht healthcare plan... aka Universal Coverage Scheme [UCS].

Regardless of who thought it up, Thaksin's first administration put it into practice and it continues to this day.

I'm no big fan of his - far from it - but as you say, 'Give the Devil his due."

Another scheme his gov't initiated in 2001 was OTOP, One Tambon, One Product.

This has been beneficial to local people and also continues to operate all over the country.

Thailand is full of contradictions... Thaksin is just one of them.

Thaksin was his government.

He has always been larger than life - just like Trump, love him or hate him, he dominates every situation he is in.

What are you smoking, Mike?  Pass the bong to Dow.

I agree with what you say, except for him ",,,starting the trouble in the south."  He did no such thing, although he was directly responsible for the killing of large numbers of innocent people there.

For sure, he and his corrupt clan ripped-off the country big time for well over 20 years.

His Zillions didn't come from the family silk shop on Huay Kaew.

Thanks, but I don't have to "look up the history..." because I lived through much of it.

Serious unrest in Thailand's South, in the form of Muslim separatism, Communist insurgency, and large scale drug dealing predated Thaksin's rise to power by many years.

English language news media were reporting frequent incidents of violence in the late 1970s and early '80s, long before Thaksin formed his first government.

He's as slippery as they come.

It will be surprising if he spends even a month behind bars.

But hey, who knows? TIT.

Spot on.

TIT's up or TIT's down...

Thaksin could do the full year behind bars, or he could walk free in a few days.

You never know what will happen next here.

It's beyond bizarre.
