Police in Patong, Phuket, initiated a street operation today to remove unauthorized objects placed on roads and pavements to reserve parking spots. This action was taken in response to numerous complaints from locals regarding restricted access to public parking areas. The operation, led by Police Colonel Chalermchai Hirasawat, targeted makeshift barriers along Rat Uthit 200 Pi Road.

The enforcement team comprised senior officers and traffic unit leaders who removed illegal obstructions such as plastic chairs and traffic cones intended for reserving parking for nearby businesses. These items were seized and taken to Patong Police Station as evidence. Officers emphasized that using public roads for private parking is prohibited by law.

Residents and business owners were informed about the regulations surrounding public space usage. The crackdown followed persistent complaints from motorists and tourists who faced difficulty accessing public parking due to obstructions like chairs, bins, and even chained tyres. Police warned that similar enforcement efforts would continue throughout the Patong area.

Authorities called on the public to report any further illegal obstructions to ensure compliance and facilitate equal access to parking. The police have also assured continued monitoring and removal of such barriers. This operation marks the start of an ongoing effort to clear roadways for unobstructed use by all.

Key Takeaways:

  • Patong police removed illegal road barriers following local complaints.
  • Confiscated items were taken as evidence of unlawful parking space reservation.
  • Ongoing enforcement is promised to ensure public roadway access.
