An explosion at an asphalt plant in Lamphun province killed one worker and injured two others on the morning of 14 September 2025. The blast occurred at 08:45 at the company’s asphalt facility in Moo 2, Ban Pha Phlu, Pa Phlu subdistrict, Ban Hong district. Thick black smoke rose into the sky as flames engulfed the plant, prompting an urgent emergency response.

Mr. Meekaeo Nuphalao, head of Pa Phlu Subdistrict Administrative Organisation, arrived at the scene with local rescue teams and fire trucks. The fire spread rapidly across the asphalt facility, but crews managed to contain the blaze after continuous water spraying. A backhoe parked nearby was destroyed in the fire.

Investigators from Ban Hong Police Station later confirmed that one male worker was found dead at the site, his body burned beyond recognition next to the backhoe. Two other male workers suffered injuries, with one in serious condition and the other with minor wounds. Both were taken to Ban Hong Hospital for treatment.

The explosion has raised concerns over safety at the asphalt plant, which uses flammable materials. Authorities are now focusing on determining the exact cause of the blast and whether safety protocols had been followed. The incident highlights the risks faced by workers in facilities handling asphalt and similar compounds.

Police forensic teams are expected to conduct further inspections once the site is secure. Meanwhile, the Pa Phlu Subdistrict Administrative Organisation has pledged to support the families of the victims. The investigation into the root cause of the explosion remains ongoing.
