That's what happens when you take a younger Thai wife to the west.

They see they can get a younger, richer man with a nicer house.

I prefer to stay in Thailand where I'm the best she can do.

good advice !!! lol dont move them to your own country that is where the problem starts

  • Most on this board do not live in Thailand retired or otherwise. I would make it mandatory for members. Without this constraint the board just becomes Reddit /Thailand .. as we have seen now for years

Then your statement about owning two houses is false.

You are a KW. How old are you? 70? 80? Sitting behind a computer and following me from topic to topic. What a sad life.

Get out of the house dude.

3 of my mates fell for that. Girls gone within a year. One left the new-born behind. Coyotes can do that to ya.🙃🙃

I’m certainly not claiming that I understand all of the complexities of the taxation of superannuation, but I do understand that not all types of super pensions are entirely tax free for over 60’s. For Australian residents, the tax payable can be less for over 60’s, but not necessarily zero.

I’m apparently not permitted to post links here, but Google “PSS pension tax payable over 60”, read up on taxable and non taxable components, and you’ll see that I’m sadly correct.

Ah....you are talking about a defined or hybrid benefit from a Public Sector Superannuation scheme I assume? Not many of those schemes left these days. Too expensive to allow new entrants. Yup you may pay some tax on employer contributions but minimal in the scheme of things.

I stopped reading up on super when I left the industry. Policy re tax hasn't changed that much.🙃🙃

Yes. Tax is minimal, but NOT if you’re not an Australian resident for tax purposes!

After 4 weeks on visa free entry I always want to get out of Thailand but always come back again and again . It’s a love hate thing but about 25 days into every trip things Thai, or lack of common sense, TIT things,  start to irritate me.

Same here - after 5 months I`m very glad to get on that plane back " home " . Life in the UK is so much simpler . Only snag is , it`s very boring , and after a month or two , I`m planning my next trip . The economic position in the UK is looking dodgy , with big tax rises on the horizon , so I might be forced into the LTR or O visa in the next few years .

Great winter as well. Enjoy especially paying for the heat to keep your house warm.

Main reasons, I have excellent free healthcare in France and private health insurance for extras like choosing my own specialist/ surgeon/ hospital/ private room.
All my hard earned savings I want to spend on myself ! Good restaurants and wine, holidays in EU when I fancy, I own a lovely apartment by the sea , a great car.
I wouldn’t give that up to have an extremely expensive health plan in Thailand that won’t cover any pre existing illness.

Since Covid I now spend a wonderful 3 months in Thailand in a rented apartment, Christmas and New Year in Bangkok luxury, and just enjoy. No Visa run around, and no monsoon.

Makes sense, and don't know why people think others 'need' or 'want' to retire to TH.  Unless TH offers something they don't have or can't get in home country.

I would never live in the entire central region of Thailand because it's geographically boring compared to the north and much hotter and humid. Chiang Mai is pretty big city so it's not comparable in that regard either. I guess no smoke season is the biggest benefit?

Chiang Mai is my target site, once I sell my two condos in Pattaya, I will move up there.  I’ll pbly rent for a year during different seasons to determine where or if, I’d like to buy.  Thailand is my second home.   Any suggestions??   I can survive in either Farang land or Thai Land, speak pasable Thai, English, and a smattering of French, Spanish or German.

Lovely up here when the rain stops, walk around my local park (beside MaeJo golf course) nearly every day.
