The government led by Anutin Charnvirakul is set to introduce an economic stimulus package aiming for immediate impact, following a political agreement that requires dissolving the House within four months after presenting its policy statement to parliament. The measures are designed to boost the economy and purchasing power before the year's end, helping the administration potentially secure a full four-year term in the next election. Key strategies include reducing living costs, energy and travel expenses, and addressing farmer debts while bolstering community economies.

The policy, spearheaded by incoming deputy prime minister and finance minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas, focuses on enhancing household expenditure through initiatives like the revamped Khon La Khrueng (“Half-Half”) co-payment scheme. Originally launched with significant taxpayer support, the scheme is being adjusted to cover both taxpayers and non-taxpayers, increasing the daily spending limit under review. Previous phases involved 31 million participants, with a substantial budget allocation.

Beyond this, the government is looking to rapidly deploy local economic funds and revive tourism initiatives seen in past successful campaigns. The Village and Urban Community Fund is under consideration for swift capital injection using pre-allocated budgets from the previous administration. Tourism efforts, including a scheme resembling 'We Travel Together,' are also planned to boost domestic travel.

There are plans to reduce electric train fares by 30–40% via the Joint Ticket Act. While a flat 20-baht fare was deemed unsustainable, revenue sharing and negotiations on entry fees might balance costs. Meanwhile, efforts to lower electricity tariffs below 3.98 baht per unit are underway, with the aim of reducing household financial burdens until next April.

Looking forward, the government remains committed to larger infrastructure projects, such as the Southern Economic Corridor's Land Bridge. Although the current mandate is brief, preliminary studies have been conducted to ensure continuity and future development.

Key Takeaways

  • The government plans immediate economic measures to boost short-term purchasing power.
  • A revised co-payment scheme and community funding are central to the strategy.
  • Long-term projects include transport infrastructure, despite short tenure.

Anutin is a corrupt politician and the head of the "Blue Party" which is under investigation of the DSI and Election Commission for money laundering. Anutin cares nothing for the poor people of Thailand but for himself and his party to take control and make even more money for themselves. The Election Commission has the report that was finished by the DSI with proof of corruption by the Blue Party. We will see if they actually do their duty and remove the illegal Senators and Anutin.

All he is doing is to enact as much populist policies as possible before the next election, so he can increase his vote share/power... nothing to do with the betterment of Thailand.

The TRUMP playbook.

Well Trump seems to be stagnating the economy, but now promising it will be better later. I think he intended to do what you suggest but he's got no idea how the economy works.

Anutin is in a very different situation, in that he's got a very short timeline and I'm not sure whether if it's enough. His plan might work as it's fairly easy to pump money in and make an improvement in the short term but there can be long term consequences.

More "benefits" for corrupt officials.
