A fire broke out in a four-storey, two-unit shophouse near Nang Linchi Intersection, Ratchadaphisek Road, Bangkok, early on 15 September 2025, leaving one man dead on a third-floor balcony. Emergency services from Thung Maha Mek Police Station, the fire department and rescue volunteers responded to the blaze at 05.05. The fire was brought under control after approximately 40 minutes of firefighting.

The source of the fire is believed to have been a refrigerated pick-up truck used for frozen goods, parked outside and against, the ground floor of the building. Flames quickly spread up to the second and third floors of the shophouse. Upon inspection, rescuers discovered the burnt body of a male occupant on the third-floor balcony.

Police coordinated with the Forensic Science Department, medical examiners from Chulalongkorn Hospital and volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation to investigate the scene. Preliminary findings suggest the fire started in the vehicle before spreading to the upper floors. No other casualties were reported, as the surrounding units were evacuated as a precaution.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the precise cause of the fire and any contributing factors. Forensic teams will examine the vehicle and building materials to confirm how the blaze started. Police are also reviewing security footage and witness statements to complete the investigation.

A fire broke out at a four-storey commercial building in Bangkok early on 15 September, leaving one foreign national dead and another person injured. The incident occurred at around 05:05 in two adjoining units on the ground floor, located in the Thung Maha Mek area. Firefighters deployed multiple fire trucks and took about 40 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

During the operation, rescuers evacuated a 46-year-old Thai woman, later identified as Ms. Chanika, who was taken to Lerdsin Hospital and is now in a safe condition. However, emergency responders found the body of a man on the third-floor balcony. He was identified as Mr. Laurent Christian Opportune, a 56-year-old French national and the owner of the building.

The fire also damaged two refrigerated vehicles parked at the site. Fortunately, the flames did not spread to neighbouring properties, though the affected building sustained significant damage. Authorities are now working to determine the precise cause of the blaze.

Preliminary investigations suggest the fire started on the ground floor, where large freezers were located, before spreading to the parked trucks and through the upper floors, both internally and externally. Investigators from the Forensic Science Division and a forensic doctor from Chulalongkorn Hospital have been called to examine the scene. The deceased’s body has been sent for autopsy to confirm the cause of death.

Police at Thung Maha Mek station are coordinating with fire experts to assess structural safety and verify whether faulty electrical systems or equipment may have triggered the incident. A full forensic report is expected as the investigation continues.
