Robbing Peter to pay Paul

I recall that when Trump announced his tariff war, he claimed it would reduce the debt of the US, but now it turns out that the tariffs are actually used to cover additional losses, created by the tariff war.

While it is a good thing that they support the farmers, if there were no tariffs, the farmers wouldn't be in debt and wouldn't need subsidies.

Winning? No way!!

Trump tariffs could fund bailout for US farmers, agriculture secretary tells FT

(Reuters) - The Trump administration is drawing up plans to use tariff revenue to fund a program to support U.S. farmers, the Financial Times reported on Thursday, citing agriculture secretary Brooke Rollins.

The report follows pressure from farm groups after China stopped purchases of soybeans from the U.S. in their tit-for-tat trade dispute, and as tariffs have pushed up costs for fertiliser, machinery and other imported inputs.

This has happened once before, during Trump's first term.

Large farms will profit from subsidies. Small farms will go under, they won't be getting enough money to be sustainable.

It's all about area under cultivation. In Western New South Wales, no farm of less than 30,000 acres is profitable long term.

Some people don't learn from history.

Sounds like what happened to his Casino's going bankrupt. Nothing is paid down, he just uses his image to negotiate for more loans or what he wants and delays payment.

yeah, they're just shifting money around to what they consider higher priority.

someone always has to lose their kneecaps, though.

Farmers who have to burn their harvest.

Allies that switch their purchases from the US to other countries.

Americans losing their jobs because of this.

Do MAGA's understand the concept of winning? I don't think so

That's completely wrong though.

The tariffs have led to a number of negotiations.

They've also brought in large amount of money for the US.

Is there a single MAGA like you that understands:

(a) Tariffs are inflationary.

(b) They are paid by American businesses and consumers.

(c) Farmers can't sell their crops, and manufacturing workers are losing their jobs?

You have heard of the Smoot-Hawley tariffs, which triggered the Great Depression?

Talk about being savaged by a dead sheep.

Don't worry, Trump is not just making trade better, he's also making TV better.

There's nothing Trump can't improve.

Nobody can guarantee you a job for life.

It doesn't exist.

Maybe 10% of people have it. Doctors, lawyers ...

Detroit went completely down the toilet when they moved the car manufacturing.

Some industries die.

That's how it is.

Can you please name the countries and the amount that has come in?   I would imagine that not one cent has come in yet and probaly never will. Only people be paying for your so called tariffs will be the end user the USA.

Sure Mr shu, here you go:

The United States has collected $100 billion in tariff revenue since April, when a large swath of Trump’s global tariffs went into effect, according to Treasury Department data through July.

Here's a list of ocuntries that have negotiated trade deals on the back of tariffs:

Why are so many European leftists so clearly obsessed with Trump? Do they not have political leaders that they can push their seething hate on in their own counties?

Like Tesla's?

Or perhaps you mean the Canadians begging for Kentucky bourbon, or Australians begging for crappy feedlot beef.

American exports are as popular as a pork chop in a synogogue.

It's that "Art Of The Deal" type stuff in that book. He basically uses language and crafts perception so people think he has an angle which he does not actually have. Then later on, whomever comprimised in some way is not fully re-paid or left hanging so he comes out ahead or profits.

He did it with poor white voters. A simplistic example, you can see it in him working at the McDonald's stuff, so poor white's see themselves in him and feel like they could be wealthy. Then he takes the votes and disappears. He got something for nothing. He never enjoyed flipping burgers.

That may also be why he liked the Casino business. Casino's sell the illusion of players having a chance (selling something that's not really available) then come out ahead when players lose. It's justified because players got that feeling of maybe winning, but it was not something the casino could afford to do or could back up financially for everybody.

Why are so many Australian leftists so clearly obsessed with Trump? Do they not have political leaders that they can push their seething hate on in their own counties?

Nothing to hate, we don't have leaders who are bullies, cowards and felons.

Hey, hey, hey! American beef is superb and every bit the equal of Australian beef, most say it's superior in taste.

Some ideas on how to spend the 100 billion USD the Trump tariffs have already brought in:

You believe the estimates of a politicized Treasury Department. Next, you'll be telling us employment is booming.

If you would like to offer an alternative to the Treasury Department data, I would of course be happy to consider any other reliable data.

You have that, right?

In the interests of adding to your body of knowledge, I'll break my promise to myself and reply to another of your posts. I'll limit my reply to the UK.

In the UK, a centre-left government - headed by Kier Starmer - is in charge. Paradoxically, this means that so far as comments here are on AN are concerned, the result is both different and the same.

It's the same in that there is still an obsession with Trump, but this time it is from some right-wing posters who enter a state of delirious ecstasy at the very mention of his name. However, mention of the word, 'Starmer' has this right-wing cohort frothing at the mouth, and calling down fire from heaven, in attempt to quell their raging hatred.

Hope this helps.

Do explain how (you think) tariffs work.
