The Electronic Transactions Development Agency (Etda) has reported a significant increase in online complaints in the first eight months of 2025, with over 27,000 cases filed—a 20.1% rise compared to the previous year. This increase highlights rising public concerns over digital threats, particularly as online platforms become more vulnerable to technological exploits such as AI-generated deepfakes. Chaichana Mitrpant, Etda’s executive director, noted that while complaint numbers had decreased in previous years, the current surge indicates a change in the nature of online scams.

Complaints have shifted from traditional issues to include deepfake impersonations, deceptive investment platforms, fake job offers, and loan scams requiring upfront fees. Between January and August, the agency recorded 27,332 complaints, an increase from 22,758 during the same period in 2024. The most common issues reported included online shopping problems, illegal websites, and personal data protection concerns.

Despite the rise, Etda successfully resolved 98.0% of cases—totaling 26,794—with a public satisfaction rate of 95.1%. The agency has intensified its efforts through the Digital Platform Services (DPS) Act, collaborating with entities like law enforcement and major platforms such as Facebook and TikTok. These efforts aim to improve consumer protection through identity verification guidelines, standards for online advertising, and regulations for online marketplaces.

Etda is also promoting the "DPS Trust Every Click" campaign, aiming to enhance digital literacy and safety. The agency is conducting educational activities and public awareness campaigns in partnership with government and private sectors. Chaichana emphasized the increasing complexity of online deceptions and the need for strengthened regulatory mechanisms and public education to ensure the safety of digital platforms.

It would be really useful to know how they are defining and measuring these metrics and especially what they mean by "successfully resolved"?

Those % rates are so high as to seem more like a TAT figure..........:whistling:
