Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited Ang Thong province to assess the ongoing flood situation, which has affected 1,025 households across four districts. He praised the provincial governor for proactive management and met with local officials to review relief measures.

The visit took place at the Thai Red Cross Vechapaharn Chalermprakiet Centre in Bang Jak, Wiset Chai Chan district, alongside Higher Education Minister Surasak Phanjaroenworakul. Governor Chawanin Wongsatitjirakal reported that the Chao Phraya Dam is releasing 2,200 cubic metres of water per second, and that authorities have been monitoring potential flood impacts downstream at Khlong Phong Pheng in Pa Mok district and surrounding areas.

Ang Thong has prepared extensively for the 2025 flood season, monitoring water levels since July, inspecting risk points, repairing dykes and clearing water hyacinths. Governor Chawanin noted that damage in Chaiyo and Mueang districts has be minimised, protecting the local economy. He also confirmed that government compensation has not yet been announced.

Anutin addressed residents, acknowledging property damage and assuring that the government is acting swiftly. He highlighted the appointment of Cabinet members, including Prachachon-elected ministers, to ensure continuity in disaster response. He emphasised that resources will be deployed efficiently and collaboration across ministries and provinces is critical to mitigate flood impacts.

The Prime Minister also reflected on his recent absence from office, stating that preparations and relief plans will now resume fully. He underscored the importance of fairness and public welfare in administration, praising the governor’s dedication and questioning the rationale behind previous administrative transfers.

Looking ahead, Anutin announced plans to distribute aid packages, with 145 kits already delivered by the Bhumjaithai Party. He confirmed that compensation for flood-affected households will be allocated promptly and policies such as the 60:40 co-payment scheme and free dialysis services will be implemented following the Cabinet’s official swearing-in on 24 September.

Flood control Failure.

Implementing preventive flood control policies would be cheaper.
