A Bangkok water vendor has been taken into custody after a viral video depicted him posing as an undercover police officer during an altercation with a motorcyclist. The incident took place near the entrance of Soi Phetkasem 81/5 on Phetkasem Road in the Nong Khaem district, leaving the motorcyclist stunned. The footage was shared online, resulting in widespread disbelief and concern.

Mongkhon, also known as Aod, a 48-year-old water vendor residing in Soi Wat Rai Khing, turned himself in to the authorities on September 23 after the video went viral. Bangkok Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Police Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom, confirmed Aod's arrest by officers from the Nong Khaem Police Station. During interrogation, Aod admitted to purchasing a police-style vest but stated that he later discarded it.

Aod claimed he did not intend to impersonate an officer, explaining that he reacted in anger when the motorcyclist cut him off. He became suspicious of the rider, who lacked a delivery bag, leading him to believe the motorcyclist was pretending to be a food courier. However, the police clarified that the motorcyclist was actually a licensed passenger carrier, explaining the absence of a delivery bag.

Following the investigation, Aod was charged with causing fear or panic through threats and openly insulting another person. The case was forwarded to the Bang Bon District Court. In the civil proceedings, Aod was ordered to pay 10,000 baht in compensation to the motorcyclist. In the criminal case, he pleaded guilty and was fined 5,000 baht.

Police officials emphasized the seriousness of impersonating officers, stating that such actions undermine public trust and should be avoided, especially in moments of anger. “This type of behaviour cannot be tolerated. It damages the reputation of law enforcement and creates unnecessary fear among the public,” they stressed. The incident has prompted netizens to call for harsher penalties for those impersonating officials, with many mocking Aod's explanation.
