Cheapest Exercise: Pulling a Truck-Tire, back and forth?

Featured Replies

Dear Folks,

Despite what you might imagine, THIS (this time) is not a joke post.

Here is the thingy:

a. I am trying to come up with a way to strengthen my limbs.

b. I don’t want to spend much, if anything, on those exercise equipment scams.

c. I am wondering, what might be a cheap alternative, one which might even be MORE effective.

d. So, I am thinking, obviously, about a Truck-Tire.

e. Where can I get a large Truck-Tire, anyway, one which is, basically, free?

f. Also, has anyone here ever used a Truck-Tire to quickly build up calf muscles?

Anyway...This guy's tire is too small.

I need a bigger one.

Where to obtain one....

image.png.7367d1367c6f1c1d7239c0d9301ae2c2.png

For FREE (only)....I will NOT pay for a used huge tire.

Here is what I plan to do:

1. I will harness myself to a truck tire, and then pull the tire, to and fro, from one end of my property to the other end.

2. In my opinion, this will add much to my calf muscles, and also contribute to my upper body strength.

3. Please let me hear from you concerning the best way to do this….

4. I mean: What is the cheapest way to accomplish this, including the harness, the required ropes, any chains necessary for attachments, and more.

Also, I have already walked off my driveway.  I have about 150 feet of runway. I can pull the truck tire, on my own property, one way. Then, pull it the other way….To and Fro, for as long as I wish, until I become winded.

You see:

a. Originally, I had intended to invest in some kind of exercise machine, such as a treadmill.

b. However, these machines are very expensive, and too high-tech.

c. They often break-down into useless junk.

d. So, I want to devise some alternative which will last a long time, and cost almost nothing.

e. IMHO, Truck-Tires are very durable.

BUT, I don’t know where to get a large-enough truck tire, in my area.

In addition, what is the best way to connect the truck tire to a harness?

Also, might it be better to pull the truck tire with only my arms, providing superior use of more of my muscles?  Or, should I wear one of those harnesses that we often see used for Sled Dogs, such as in photos of the Iditarod?

Anyone who might have suggestions about how to do this, please provide advice.

Best regards,

Gamma

Important Note:  I guess I will not be so foolish as to pay money for an exercise machine which will sit idle in my living room.  We all know why selling exercise machines is sort of a scam, for this reason.

Final Note:  Concerning WEARING-OUT my DriveWay…..

Do you think that if I pull a truck-tire, back and forth, along my driveway…then….I might quickly wear out my driveway?  Because, I would not want to do so if it might mean that I would need to re-pave it.  I am trying to save money.

ALSO:  Can I get a used truck tire delivered for FREE, since I would be providing sort of a second-use, recycling function.  And, I don't want one so big and heavy that I could not budge it.

image.png.ca46f1d289574428e057a45a6ba229bc.png

What might be the best size for me?

How big would be TOO Big?

=====================

I am now on sort of a Health-Kick, in fact.

And, I have begun keeping my rooms at an even lower temperature than before, for better sleep and health....as you can see here:

Let's not be crude, Sir!

This Topic is NO JOKE.

I need to get back in shape while there is still time for me to do so.

Now you’re raising so many important questions. What exactly do you need to get back in shape for? A triathlon? The Masturbation Olympics? Or are you merely planning on entering Mr. Olympia again next month? But the bigger question is, who says you even still have time to get back in shape? There’s a very good chance you don’t. Here’s what I’d suggest: move for an hour a day, every day. Walk, run, jump, whatever. Just keep moving. And most importantly, eat much less. Follow that, and you’ll be in great shape in three months.

If I were to drag Truck-Tires, I could get back in shape in half the time.

But you’ll almost surely injure your back in the first week, maybe even the very first day, and then you’ll be laid up for months, shuffling off to rehab, and just like that, it’s game over for your little self-fulfilling prophecy of nonsense. I suggest you stick with your current 24/7 keyboard tapping routine. Less painful. I assure you.

That's what I've been trying to impress upon you this whole time. Completely skip all your needless aerobic and anaerobic fantasies and stick to doing what you do best... whatever that could possibly be.

So here's to silver linings in your disposable underpants. You may recall the clinical diagnosis that your whole life has been just like one big pair of disposable underpants, right?

My understanding is the he pulls himself off every chance he gets.

If you haven't exercised for a long time, your best bet, and safest, is to join a gym. There you can sit, and lie, on exercise equipment that will support your back, making an injury harder to happen. They have machines for every body part that you can do in a circuit. All you need to know is to adjust the seat heights or leg distances. Pulling a truck tire strains the lower back, and if you jerk to get it moving, can hurt a lower back that's not used to that load. It's good if you're young, or have some time in a gym to strengthen your lower back by hyperextensions and deadlifts.

If you start dragging truck tires around, the cops will come looking for you.

it will look like you're stealing.

maybe come up with a better alternative.

good luck.

Get two shopping bags, strong ones. Fill them with soil, sand, shopping to equal weight to suit your requirements, and you can walk up and down doing so called 'Farmers Walks'. That should help strengthen your legs and back to start with. Go easy.

Not good for me, maybe.

I do not want to add weight.

I just want to create drag.

Think of me as a friendly sled dog.

I love to pull, or push.

But, I don't want to carry unnecessary weight.

Not good for my old joints, you see.

I would be happy to climb hills, alternatively.

However, there are no high hills at my house, nor near my house.

Truck-Tire pulling might be the next best thing.

Since you want to save money, I'd suggest exercise (stretch) bands.

I would need stretch bands that could stretch 50 meters.

Hardly sounds practical.

And, if I lost my footing.....

I might be catapulted into the next village, or Tambon, or what have you.

Don't be so dramatic.

Stretch bands like this: https://shopee.co.th/O-OOUP-Resistance-Band-ออกกําลัง-ยางฟิตเนส-weight-training-ยางยืดแรงต้าน-6-ระดับ-ยางยืดออกกำลังกาย-i.1274641913.27538970785

You can train calves and other muscles with them with consistency, with the option to overload progressively, indoors or outdoors.

You would not need such a large tyre. A lorry tyre would suffice. You can fill it with earth or rocks to increase weight. There are loads of tyre dumps around. Or try a garage that sells tyres for lorries or trucks. 3 feet diameter should be plenty big enough. You get something too big and heavy to pull would mean you then have to try and get rid of it.

or perhaps buy a bicycle to start off.

Yes.

I will ask a neighbor.

There is a place which repairs trucks, not far from here.

40 Kg should be about right.

A couple of large fruit drink jug style cannisters filled with water. Arms outstretched and lift up and down until your arms ache.

First, watch Rocky IV, it has everything you need.

That said I don't think you need a tyre, there are plenty of exercises that require zero equipment to strengthen your legs.

Pushups and Setups. Targets many muscle groups and is free. Top it off with some cardio like brisk walking or stair climbing...also free.

I could go for stair climbing, if there were stairs near here.

I would love hill climbing, even better, if there were hills within reasonable walking distance.

It is for precisely THIS reason, the absence of hills or steps in my area, that I am proposing my Truck-Tire solution.

I would be happy to buy an inclined treadmill, if they could be had for a very reasonable price, and were guaranteed to not break down.

But, I view a high proportion of exercise equipment as falling in the scam category.

The best exercise for me would be hill climbing in the quiet hills far from the city, and with no dogs.

But, finding a place like this, and then getting to a place like this, would not be possible.

One of the chief negative aspects of life in Thailand, from my perspective, is the dearth of good walking routes, ones with no cars and with no dogs.

Dogs are everywhere.

Cars and motorized transport, including trucks, is everywhere.

Our modern world has become hazardous to our health, for just this reason.

This forum becomes more and more bonkers. Is everybody on it in the throes of delerium?

I remember one day in Redwood City, California watching people dragging, flipping, and rolling truck tires back and forth across a Crossfit outdoor lot.  I'm guessing it was a rather expensive activity. Then, I was in South Africa watching a young man roll a truck tire alongside a road that lead miles out to nowhere.   He was probably fetching a tire to replace one on a truck in a village somewhere.  Interesting contrast.

You have repeated the grammar/spelling mistake that I often make.

I feel for you.

For some reason, I seem to never be able to recall whether it might be LEAD or LED.

Maybe its because I associate LED with Light-Emitting-Diodes....who knows.

Do you think there is any way I will ever be able to keep in my mind the difference between....

a. I led him to his death.

b. Lead caused his death.

c. I keep my dog on a lead.

d. All sled dogs are led by a leader?

I think the reason I am having trouble keeping lead and led in my mind is due to my deteriorating brain.

In the past, I never experienced this problem.

And, if I can just pull a truck tire back and forth, I might be able to regain my former, and slightly better, mental acuity.....

I used to be sharp as a tack.....

No more, I fear.

I need to get back to exercise, and it must be low-impact exercise.

Please take another look at the truck-tire-pulling vid I included at the beginning of this glorious Topic.

I think that you must agree that the truck-tire strategy is one of the best....IF, that is, you have no steep hills handy...

Nearby where you live.

Pulling a small dog on a lead, every day, will NOT provide the exercise or cardio that you require:

Tiny dogs like this are CUTE...but....

DUMB...!!!!!

Just look at that SAPPY expression on that dumb dog's face.

I would never own a dog like that.
