Car Crashes Into Chiang Mai Shop, Narrowly Misses Tourists

A red MG sedan crashed into a popular Mala shop in Chang Phueak, Chiang Mai, narrowly avoiding two foreign tourists and other patrons. The incident, captured on surveillance footage on September 27, is under investigation by local police. Although the crash caused panic among diners, there were no immediate reports of serious injuries.

Surveillance video shows the vehicle colliding with the shop where both local and international tourists were dining. The tourists, startled by the sudden intrusion, managed to flee the scene, with one narrowly avoiding being run over. While some customers' vehicles remained untouched, others suffered minor damage.

Eyewitnesses expressed disbelief at the potentially life-threatening incident, highlighting the narrow escape of the foreign tourists. Some onlookers focused on a motorcycle owner who had stepped away briefly and avoided injury as the chaos unfolded. The footage notably captures the dramatic evasion of the tourists being propelled to safety.

Similar accidents have raised alarms about the increasing incidence of vehicle crashes in public areas. For instance, a vehicle in Suphan Buri collided with a supermarket in May, injuring a customer and an employee. In March, a sedan in Samut Prakan rammed into a bakery, narrowly missing a child and a staff member.

Earlier in July, a high-speed incident in Chon Buri involved a vehicle crashing into a furniture shop, causing substantial damage and almost hitting the owner. These occurrences underline longstanding issues with reckless driving in Thailand, heightening concerns for pedestrian safety in common public venues.

The ongoing investigation in Chang Phueak aims to assess the sedan driver's actions to ascertain the cause behind the crash. Police efforts will focus on determining whether factors like speeding, distraction, or negligence contributed to the incident.

Key Takeaways

  • A sedan crashed into a Chiang Mai shop, narrowly missing tourists.
  • Similar vehicle incidents raise the issue of public space safety in Thailand.
  • Chang Phueak police continue investigating the cause of the crash.

Yeah, I guess you can´t blame a guy for being urgently hungry, right? 🤣

Am I seeing correctly, is the terrace located at a crossing?
Perhaps that's what confused the driver?

Is Bond back?

Do non-Thais, in need of medical assistance, have to pay for their treatment? Yes, they do as it is their own fault. If they would not have been at the spot of accident then the medical assistance would not have been in need! Thai logic - happened to a friend of mine ....

Yet, looking at the whole picture - is this story really newsworthy, honestly?

He was busy phoning in his order.

Is it not worth noting that the tables and chairs seem to have been set up on the black and white lines of a pedestrian crossing?

Yes

As I say," crossings in  Thailand are a waste of paint".

Last week a very senior citizen drove right though the dealership where I was having my oil changed in Florida.  Sounded like a B-52 had crashed,  glass everywhere.   One hour later they let him test drive a new car.

Why? Were they on overstay....🤣
