High quality 3 pin Thai plugs?

Featured Replies

I recently had a single plug 3x1.5mm2 extension cable from Lazada spark on the female end that I had attached a power tool to. Upon opening it up I found that the wires inside were loose and some were hanging on by just a few strands. The extensions male plug also had an issue, the earth pin had pushed almost all the way in. So the question is, are there high quality non-moulded 3 pin Thai plugs available? Ones with a cable grip to stop the wires pulling out the terminals. I've had a look online but haven't seen anything. I'd like to reuse the cable as it's still good.

I got some of these from Mega-Home, get them from Lazada too.

Pretty OK.

If you want a 90o cable then these are fair, but not perfect.

I've also just spotted these, may get a few to test out.

Single way trailing outlets are much more difficult.

We have many of these rubber ones in double and quad, robust and low cost.

Three pin plugs are only any use if your sockets are earthed.

Sorry, should have said only any use if 3 core cable is used, AND your sockets are earthed properly both at the socket, the fuse box and the rod in the ground.

I have found it very difficult to find 3 core cable, except very heavy duty, thick stuff.

Where are you looking?

Loads of VCT flex in various sizes (0.5mm2 and up) and core counts on Lazada.

You may have to go with using red or brown as ground (use green heatshrink).

This cable has a third earth conductor it's just hard to see in the photo as it came loose. As Crossy said you can find 3 core flex online here.

The first ones in your above post look perfect. I'll try and find them online. I'm looking for a single plug over double or quad because I need to use the extension with a sander up a ladder and the sander's cable is short. Sometimes the connection will be off the ground. Thanks

I've used these in the past. The pins and terminals are quite sturdy. The only problem - and it isn't once you know about it - is that the L and N pins are back-to-front for Thai use. Attach the L cable to the N pin, N cable > L pin and all's good.

If your sander has a 2-pin "Shuko" plug like this: -

Single trailing outlets are much easier to find, our long gardening leads all have them.

The sander has a UK 3 pin plug but it's good to know that the blue type of socket are good for outdoor extensions. I think i'm going to go for the setup in the pictures.

If you have RCCB (Residual Current Circuit Breakers) they work on circuit current balance and are not referenced to ground. Or they are because here Neutral is ground?

I have good experience with Sumo brand TIS plugs.  they use a cable gland style strain relief so the electrical contacts inside don't get pulled apart.   As for receptacles, I'm a fan of the rubber box same as Crossy mentions above.
