One week homeless in Pattaya

Featured Replies

Today a guy asked me that:

how can survive one week in Pattaya without a room and with only a budget of 1200 THB. He showed me his ticket back to his country on 8 October. So, how he can survive on that?

  • Too bad he's not a cute Thai chick, I'd take care.

  • If you have nobody who can borrow you 5-10k or give you what you need, you have made some poor choices in life. Or just been an complete jerk.

  • Tell him to save 143 baht for the Roong Reuang airport bus.

Sleep on the beach  noodle soup about 50 baht  per day

wash/shower in one of the many shopping malls along the beach

find a friendly Thai  to take pity on them for luxury short term accommodation.

Maybe better to hang out in the airport , free aircon  free shower/toilets food a bit more expensive though still cheap food is available

there..... big ++++  24/7 beer 😋

Well, 150 baht a day sure will keep you fairly well fed. In this climate lack of shelter is not life threatening unlike in Siberia during wintertime. And still have the money for the bus ticket.

So really not difficult

After he gets there on the bus?

Could survive on the beach but the homeless tend to get territorial, maybe better to head to the airport and sleep there

He had better start his walk to the airport.

Indeed: at the airport you have 24/7 security, bathrooms, comfortable seating, a 7/11, and a food court with cheap food. It seems like the best option.

He probably told you, didn't he?

Would you give 10 k to someone about to leave this country and never see or hear from again

I would if I knew it was a genuine person who was actually going home, and made sure he had a stay and food + clothes. Depending on the situation I would provide what he needed and transport or just given him the money if he was trustworthy.

I have done similar things before other places.

A friend of me ended up in Krabi Hospital with an lethal infection leading to blood poisoning, I contributed with a lot more.

its been a week OP......  how did your friend get on do you know?  i hope he's ok

Agree. Friends help each other out. One day it might be you in that spot.

Might depend on the history you have with this person. It might be worth the moments you've had together giving him the money he needs. Most private loans in life aren't paid back anyway.

And compassion for others isn't a bad thing.

Assuming that it wasn't just a scam. I'd suggest that getting closer to the airport be his first move.  There's a lot more resources to stay in Bangkok on the dirt cheap than in Pattaya.

Easy, you will neither freeze nor (thanks to having 1200 baht) starve to death. Don't over-eat and you'll have enough money left for a bus ticket to Swampy. Safe travels!

Friend is a big word as we spoke just twice. I don't have his contact information, so I went looking for him on Saturday, and he was right where we spoke earlier. He still has 600 THB in his pocket. He'll be taking the Jomtien-Suvarnbhumi bus, so he'll have about 400 THB until the day after tomorrow.

Shower at one bathroom in Jomtien for 40 THB

Stay at the beach all day for 50 THB

Eat noodle: I think it's around 7 THB per pack.

But I don't know about  sleep time. He did not talk about that.
