The national police inspector-general has strengthened international cooperation with the United States to combat call centre scams and cybercrime. On 30 September 2025, Police General Thatchai Pitaneelabutr, in his role as commander of the International Anti-Scam and Human Trafficking Syndicate Command Centre (War room IAC), met with representatives from the US Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL). The discussions focused on expanding joint efforts to counter cross-border financial fraud and organised online crime.

The meeting underlined the War room IAC’s mission to enhance cooperation between public authorities, the private sector and international law enforcement. Since its establishment on 4 August 2025, the centre has monitored and disrupted the changing tactics of scam syndicates, particularly in money laundering. Recent findings show that gangs immediately withdraw cash after deceiving victims, making rapid intervention critical.

War room IAC has conducted proactive operations to freeze assets obtained through fraud, intercepting funds before they reach criminal networks. In several cases, police have arrested money mule operators immediately after they withdrew cash, preventing further losses. Authorities also highlighted their success in stopping potential victims from transferring money to scammers through early detection.

General Thatchai emphasised that the ultimate goal is seamless cooperation with global law enforcement bodies. This includes real-time crime trend analysis at both regional and global levels, as well as strengthening the ability to investigate, arrest and seize assets from major organised crime groups. Both Thai and US representatives agreed to continue building on shared intelligence and operational collaboration.

The expanded partnership is expected to bolster Thailand’s ability to respond to increasingly complex cyber threats. Future steps include deeper information-sharing arrangements, enhanced training and broader engagement with international stakeholders to dismantle scam and trafficking networks. Authorities stressed that global cooperation is essential to stay ahead of evolving criminal methods.
