Krungsri Bank App Problem.

Featured Replies

As my retirement visa expires in 6 weeks time I visited my regular agent to see if there is any changes to the requirents. He told me that a Krungsri Bank app is required, previously it was a Bangkok Bank app. So I tried to open my Krungsri app and nothing happened. I then visited my nearest Krungsri Bank and  I was told that as I'm over 70 yo I can't have an app. I explained that I needed a Krungsri Bank app to obtain a new retirement visa. I was told sorry sir we can't help you. What's my age got to do with it. I've used Krungsri for my main account for the past 25 years and there's around 250K in the account. Has anybody been refused an Krungsri app because of their age?

I assume (I might be wrong of course) you are trying for an extension of stay permit based on retirement and not a visa? While you at it why not ask your regular agent where it says on the immigration

  • Then again it might be only that branch as Thais are notorious for making their own rules as they go along. I'll try several other Krungsri Banks and report back the results.

Out of what I know, they have no such official rule.

In your case as I've stated in previous threads, you can obtain Krungsri Biz online as you are over 70 yrs like I did.  Krungsri online discontinued on 01 Oct

Surely your agent would accept Krungsri Biz Online.

Furthermore, why use an agent?

I assume (I might be wrong of course) you are trying for an extension of stay permit based on retirement and not a visa? While you at it why not ask your regular agent where it says on the immigration requirement for extension of stay that one needs a banking app?! I did my extension a couple months ago and no app required, much like has been the case for the past 18 years I have been doing this.

You do not need any app for a retirement EXTENSION and I am well over 70 but they installed the app on my new phone a few weeks back. Like all banks they are illogical. Last week got glossy info from them in the post about account being over 2 million you get higher interest and a few other benefits, all in Englsih. Turning it over to read the conditions it's for Thais only and not for people over 70!

Another agent I tried in Soi Buakhow told me that she uses Krungsri Bank. When I said my app had been cancelled she said that she can fix that. The only downside is trusting someone in Thailand that I've never done business with before. I'll  be in town tomorrow so I'll check with my current agent and then go to a Krungsri Bank in Naklua where I know a bank official there and she speaks good English.

Does this mean that the Krungsri app automatically dies when we hit 70?!?

It appears that way.

Yes, as I recall the "few other benefits" were things including a THB50 voucher at Tops, free happy meals at Burger King and other such total nonsense; they're clearly trying to attract teenagers with money.

It does not die after 70

Yes 12- 70 Thais only but they waste money getting it all printed up in Englsih and posting it to people not eligible anyway

Bank App Problem

Appears these days Apps are  nothing but a problem with most Banks..

Always had SCB App, suddenly stopped working, I tried + a Thai friend tried, + a local SCB Bank tried, so did not bother as nothing worked.

Tried again this year still nothing so went into the Branch I open the Account with years ago  [ building moved they moved into Central Westgate so a few building along ]

So all sorted so say + call to SCB Call Center by local Bank Manager  = you will get a code in 1 hour,  code comes states ERROR go to Bank

As of last week with the 5 th Visit to Bank  = you will get a code in 1 hour,  code comes states ERROR go to Bank

So have spent many hours going to Bank and got nowhere.

So say 1st time it was because the phone was to old, now have the newest Samsung A07  Android 15............  maybe because I am over 70 ?

We had a holiday house up the country, we built it on my step daughters land. Everything was going well until my wife and her daughter had a total bust up. Three years on and they're still not talking. Moving on I had auto debit with Kasikorn Bank for the power and water on this property. When we got our marching orders I went to the bank to cancel any more transactions. It took me 6 visits to 4 different Kasikorn Banks before my account was cleared off the power and water debits for this property.

Why are people 70 + years such a security risk, is their logic to this or is it just another Thai brain f**t?

Just go into your branch and say you'll sign a waiver to say Krungsri are not liable in case of being scammed using the app

With Thai bank mobile apps YOU got the job as the banks' security guard.

Apparently Krungsri doesn't hire people who are over 70.

Thai politicians and businesses seem to like fixing things that aren't broken. I'd still like to know why Krungsri Banks has set rules for people 70+. My step daughter is a real lame brain when it comes to saving money. She makes big money in her restaurant and blows the lot on the lotteries. She has 5 or 6 banking apps on her phone and owes money on all of them. She's 50 yo so the banks think that's ok'.

...or with a brain

It's because they've decided that offering the mobile app to those over 70 isn't worth the problems - possibly based upon their own data.

The major issue is almost certainly security.

You might not like it and it may be 'unfair' or 'ageist' and it's definitely annoying (TiT). The thing to do now is find workarounds.

Just for my curiosity why do they need you to have an app rather than just an account? Is this because they are providing the 800k and need to take it back or what?

I have not read of other stories saying the applicant needs the app when they have the money anyway?

The last renewal I did 12 months ago 6 of us were taken to a Bangkok Bank in Pattaya, 3 were gone in 45 minutes and 2 others and myself had to wait 5 hours. When I asked the agent what's going on he said the 3 that are finished had Bangkok Bank apps. The others including myself never had the app so we had to wait. The agent said to me to make sure I get the app for the next renewal. So I did with the Bangkok Bank as requested, in recent weeks a Krungsri Bank app is now requested, a week later I failed Krungsris 70+ rule. Talk about getting f***ed around.

Still doesn't answer my question if that was the intent. I don't care if you use an agent but just trying to understand why they need you to have an app?

Presumably he needs an app as the agents use that to transfer the 800k out

It's obvious isn't it? on the news lately

I asked if that was the reason in my original question.

I just can't imagine giving someone else that sort of access personally.
